My family hunted them when I was little kid in the 1970s. I remember seeing a few go through our old two row, tractor mounted corn picker. The late 70s/early 80s blizzards wiped them out.Nice! Iāve never been pheasant hunting myself. Iāve always been an upland game/quail and grouse hunter myself. Pheasants donāt do well in non-glaciated soil, so we donāt often see them in SE Ohio or Kentucky. But my dad, my gosh he, and his dad, hunted pheasants every year in South Dakota until the days they couldnāt do it anymore. I still have pheasant feathers gifted to me that make the best cat toys ever!
My gosh, the exact thing happened here (in SE Ohio)! The ice storm of ā77 and the blizzard of ā78 took out all the quail. After that, dad and I raised quail from eggs for years, and turned them out on our farms. The quail we raised were ātameā, but they would mate with the few remaining wild birds and start the natural cycle over again. Then one day dad caught a crew from out of state on our farm trapping our wild birds to take them out of state. My dad got (rightfully so) mad as could be at me over the years, but this was the most pissed I ever saw him!My family hunted them when I was little kid in the 1970s. I wish our DNR would put the effort into bringing them back that they put into wild turkeys. I can't throw a rock into our woods these days without hitting a damn turkey.
I have hunted several put-N-take places over the years, but wild birds are a whole different thing.
Just doing some mini-burnouts to get the Ferrari warmed up for when those Wagyu briskets hit my local Costco.Looks like reverse gear works fine!
We are smoking turkey thighs for T'day. LIke what I see in this post. What temp was the smoker and about how long did the thighs take? About how big were these guys. We have several that are about 0.90 lbs and two 1.5 lbs. Thanx Tom
Damn sexy!We had a small group for Thanksgiving, just our daughter and her fiancƩ. Not many turkey fans so I did a Prime Rib. Turned out good, no complaints.

It was 6 pounds cooked all the way at 275. It took 3 1/4 hours to 128 IT. Rested it for about an hour in a foil pan covered in towels.Weight, time and temp? Iām doing a 6-pounder later today. Thanks.
Thanks. Iām thinking about 4 hours for mine as I will do the first hour-and-a-half at 180F for a bit of smoke and then finish it at 300F. I also plan to pull at 128F and give it an hour rest.It was 6 pounds cooked all the way at 275. It took 3 1/4 hours to 128 IT. Rested it for about an hour in a foil pan covered in towels.
Who would know if one was sufficient? I love the plan!!Weāre on the grill! Using a foil pan to catch the drippings for a little gravyāwe hope. Put a CPT probe in each end just for grins; one would have been sufficient, I think.
