But I thought AOC said it would stop smoker cow farts. Seal your grill and save the planet one brisket at a time!!!Sealing the lid will cause irreversible damage to the climate. Resist the urge, think about the global impact and just say NO!

The warning is bogus. I have my lik sealed with fireplace insulated tape and it works great. The RT-700 is a disappointment with "smoke flavor" compared to my wood smoker. I've tried everything to get stronger smoke flavor but nothing seems to work. The seal helps.I have seen posts suggesting the use of high temp gasket on lid to help keep the smoker clean. it nay keep it cleaner, but according to the RecTeq support article (below), the performance may suffer. Is the warning in the article real or theoretical?

Heck yeah. The smoke and grease marks are character. I like character.I’m having a hard time understanding why folks think Recteq would put out false information regarding the use of “gasketing material.” What would they have to gain by doing so? Could they actually be right?
Now, I think cleanliness is a fine attribute, but I don’t worry too much about it on an inherently dirty thing like a smoker. I’ve been to a lot of BBQ joints all over the country (and a few in other countries) and when I see a bright, shiny smoker or pit, I immediately wonder whether it is (a) new or (b) run by someone who cares more about appearance than product. Neither inspires much confidence.
So, being the contrarian here, I’ll try to keep my grill/smoker reasonably clean, but I’ll worry more about what comes out of it than how it looks to the casual observer.
I can't imagine why your wood smoker would have more smoke flavor than a pellet grillThe warning is bogus. I have my lik sealed with fireplace insulated tape and it works great. Where did you get that gasket? I searched and there are a number of vendors selling Vision grill replacement gaskets.I then installed a much nicer gasket made for a Vision grill that was much thicker and wider. Now I am happy with using the thick gasket, another plus.
have had them on my 700 and 340 since I got them years ago, no problems everI have seen posts suggesting the use of high temp gasket on lid to help keep the smoker clean. it nay keep it cleaner, but according to the RecTeq support article (below), the performance may suffer. Recteq DOES just make stuff up. This is fact and there are numerous examples of it.So, you think that just to save a couple of bucks—literally— Recteq would make something up? I’m not much into conspiracy theories, so I guess we’ll just have to agree to disagree.
My next grill is a Pitts and Spitts. Period.I seriously almost forgot, without a doubt the #1 pellet grill I would consider today if buying a new pellet grill, the Yoder YS640. USA made, door gasket pictured here.View attachment 14903
