Stampede Warped during first smoke at 400 degrees.

I bought a 590 during the latest scratch and dent sale earlier this week. It was evident it had never been used and must have been in the sale due to dents caused by bolting the legs into the sheet metal.

During the initial smoke out to cure the pit I heard a loud clang. After an hour and as I was putting chicken thighs into the pit I noticed a large dent on the interior lip of the pit opening which was not there when I purchased it.

I called customer support and was treated as a second rate customer due to purchasing it at a scratch and dent sale. Customer service advised me I should straighten out the warping/dent with pliers or I return it for a refund. I chose to use the pliers and did my best, as I live several hours from HQ and was not willing to travel back there. Also, the 30 day warranty for scratch and dent grills only covers “parts” which are considered to be the auger, blower, etc.

After hearing such positive reviews on Recteq’s customer service I was disheartened all they could do for me was direct me to put a set of pliers to a brand new grill. If the metal warped at 400 degrees what will it do at 600? Last image is my DIY metal work.

Rest assured, just because you went for the optional scratch & dent package, they treat others (I will speak for myself) that didn't opt in for that package the same. No special treatment here. It's a grill and will survive as is.

Now get some meat porn pictures going!

Welcome to the forum...
If you're concerned about the bend, have someone that has half a clue how straighten a piece of steel to fix it and it will look nearly perfect. A pair of pliers was not the best tool for the job, even if RT suggested it. A clamp/wood/hammer/dolly/knowledge would make it bend disappear.
Not defending RT support, but you bought a scratch and "dent" unit, then contact them about a "dent" and they tell you to straighten it or return for a refund. Not sure what else they could do for you? Did you expect them to ship you a new unit? 🤷‍♂️

The issue was the dent occurred during the cook and was not present at the time of purchase.

Yes, I understand the dent happened during burn in, RT said you could return if for a refund, what else do you want them to do about a scratch and dent model you purchased? What does the invoice say about scatch and dent items?

You're right! Tell them you want a new 700 and won't settle for anything less. That will show them.

Well in the OP's defense, he paid for "new dents, factory installed". The dent he's talking about is a dent developed from use. I think RecTeq should take it back and install a factory dent in it's place, then return it to the OP.
Exactly! ☝️

A refund was offered, what did I miss? BTW, these are after market dents.

I just don't see how in the hell that could happen, that isn't a piece of aluminum foil right there and it looks almost buckled? Yeah call me a sceptic......that is no WARP and no way in hell that only 400 degrees is gonna do something like that.

That's why it's an after market dent 🤣
Can't blame it on the shipping 😉
@Roaniecowpony got it right 👍

Even though I set up my profile as "Luck Bull" it proved to not be the case. I bought a brand new one and quickly found out it was junk.

I messed with it for a year, consulted with Customer Support but never got my problems resolved.

I finally sold it. Not knocking the whole company but rather telling you about my particular grill.
