Bull New to smoking, please forgive the dumb question

I'm looking into pellet smokers and considering the RT700... I see there is a "smoker box" accessory. Is this a necessary accessory to smoke meat? I thought the grill would handle the smoking but unsure. Thank you all

No, it is for cold smoking (i.e., low temperature such as cheese) as I understand it. I have read that some use it as a warmer. The 700 will smoke just fine without it.
