Do you have separate names for your 2.4 and 5 networks? If not maybe your phone is connected to the 5ghz while your grill needs it to be on the 2.4ghz during the initial connection. I believe that’s what the app means by being on the same network. Once you get it connected it doesn’t matter what network your phone is on.
I had to walk my phone pretty far away from my router to have it switch to 2.4, then walked back close enough to the grill to get it connected without getting too close to the router to switch back to 5ghz.
