Thanks to the numerous posts about custom shelves, I finally got mine installed. I used 12" brackets secured with the existing bolts. I spaced the shelf itself away from the body of the grill. Also, I made the shelf a little wider than others. I picked a piece of 1x12 mahogany from Home Depot. Just quickly sanded it and coated it with some satin poly stain. Not perfect, but pretty good for my level of skillset. :)

Since others will ask: Details of the actual board you used? You cut down, router/sand and finish yourself or buy it pre-made like that?

It was just square cut 35" long. I sanded it by hand 80, 150, 220. Used tac cloth to remove the dust. For the finish I used Varathane polyurathane and stain in one. I did only one coat on the bottom, and 3 coats everywhere else.

You did a fine job. Looks good and very functional.

Very nice. Wish we could get mahogany at a Home Depot, we're lucky if we can get decent pine.
Mahogany is hard to find anywhere these days. If you have a hardwood dealer near you, ask about Sapele. It’s very close to the look of mahogany, and is much easier to find. This picture is of a vise I made (I’m a woodworker) and is only to show what Sapele looks like.

Made my own shelf today. Bought a 590 during Black Friday so I got the Comp cart upgrade. I took the shelf from the regular cart and made it into a shelf using Amarine Made 12 Inch Long Release hinges.

Looks nice. Did you just use a Dremel to cut off some of the back lip to fit the hinge? Also curious for any extra details on how you attached the shelf to the bracket.

Nice shelves. I like the hooks on the side. I am interested in the shelf made from the standard cart as well. I too got the comp cart from the Black Friday special.

Yeah, air compressor powered cut off wheel. Notched the back of the shelf for the hinges about 1" on each side then used some black screws, washers and bolts I had laying around and lined up the hinge holes with the wire grating. Had to enlarge 1 or 2 holes where the frame of the tray was in the way. Took about 15 min
