So I guess I was so intrigued by everyone making their own shelf that I felt I had to come up with my own as well. Not sure if this one has been done but I used a stainless shelf like you would find in a kitchen and folding brackets.

It is not too far off from the Recteq I guess. I didn’t want to use wood for one I’m not the best with detail work or have lots of sweet woodworking tools. Two, I just had concerns with heat and wanted the shelf closer to the grill so I’m not too far away when it is extended. And last I did not want to add too much more weight.

The shelf is 36” X 12" and the brackets 12”

Unfortunately, the studs on the shelf for the wall brackets do not line up with the Bull leg bolt where you attach the bracket so had to drill the shelf and fit it with stainless screws.

I chose these brackets specifically to make sure there was room for screws to come through from the top unlike wood where you would come from under. Some brackets I saw have a mechanism underneath where I thought screws protruding could catch although these came out pretty good with little room taken.

It can be operated with one hand so if you have a hand full and no room you can engage it easily.

Seems plenty sturdy enough for my needs. Total cost ~ $70 for shelf & brackets (not including hanger)

The recteq version hits the legs when you let it down. Potentially can damage the paint. I made something to stop that from happening since I am trying to prevent paint damage and rust.

Does your stop before it hits or not? I can't tell.

I can relate!
Not sure if I should blame the pandemic or my Rec Teq. My cholesterol is up 31 pts!

And, nice job on the shelf!

Thanks for sharing the awesome shelf build. Looking at your pictures, there is one bracket on each outside shelf edge. There does not appear to be a bracket underneath the center of your shelf. The Amazon bracket you hyperlinked does not appear to have a release. So.... how are you engaging and releasing the brackets single-handedly from underneath the "center" of the shelf?

I recently purchased a pair of YUMORE 16" brackets on Amazon and they have release mechanisms at the end of each bracket. https://www.amazon.com/YUMORE-Folding-Shelf-Brackets-Load/dp/B07V8HHNV9/ref=sr_1_4?crid=2HP7VRHQ6X7Q9&dchild=1&keywords=yumore+folding+shelf+brackets&qid=1608659430&s=hi&sprefix=yumore+folding+shelf+brac,tools,136&sr=1-4&th=1

Thank you!!

So not being well described in the listing I messaged the seller to ask the same question without a response so I took a chance and just ordered them.

They have a slot where the pin goes through and raising the bracket and dropping the upper part in the slot is how it positively locks.

The same way to unlock it you raise the upper bracket out of the slot/channel and it folds down.

The slots are curved so it makes is easier to lock & unlock by giving you some room to shift it as needed when in the lifted position (meaning when locking/unlocking).

The more I use them the more I like it. It is simple yet strong enough for me. I don't plan to sit on it :).

Here are some pictures to help with my explanation. Hope this helps.

And what is a shelf without hooks to hang all your goodies :). Just finished putting this bad boy on.

I don'y know why that 1st pic looks like it is crooked since it is lined up with the bottom. Image trickery I guess. Does not look that bad.

Thanks for the additional pictures. That makes senses now. I am going to try a similar shelf on RT700 competition cart. Do you have a link to the utensil holder? Do you attach with bolts? or is it magnetic?
