Hey, Is it necessary to clean the auger? I've done dozens of cooks and clean the ash, etc regularly and all is good. Does the auger need periodic maintenance? What do you do?

I haven't cleaned the auger myself. I do clean the firepot and the grill before most cooks to keep most everything pretty clean.

I've wondered about this as well. I have let my hopper run out to the point of the augar is empty at the feed opening enough to see the auger. There was virtually no pellet dust in the auger. I'm thinking it just get carried out into the pot?

I will clean out the pot and belly after every long smoke, and after a few short cooks.

I have never cleaned out the auger. I have never run mine completely out of pellets. I refill before it gets completely empty. I have also not "changed out" pellets. I have switched or used other pellets, but usually just add them to the top of what is in the hopper when it gets low.
