100% Flavored wood in hopper vs smoke tube

I’ve seen a few people mention on here that they just use a different 100% flavored wood in a smoke tube when they want a different smoke profile instead of completely changing what is in the hopper. I’m curious if anyone has any comparison of results with that approach versus using 100% flavored wood in the hopper. I just got my Stampede about a month ago and I’m enjoying it but want to experiment a bit with different woods. The Pit Boss competition blend in 40lbs bags is so cost effective it would be great to use that for heat and supplement smoke flavor with something specific in a tube for a specific smoke character if that yields similar results. Thanks!
