As of Jan 1 availability of pork at WFF is now greatly reduced due to our state's "compassionate" new law for hogs! It looked like WFF had sadly removed a lot of stock yesterday while I was shopping there. I can only guess the new pricing for any and all pork here and everywhere in this upside down state. Going to affect grocery store, butchers, restaurants, fast food, etc. Google Proposition 12 if you are not familiar with it. As with most new trendy things, other states will likely soon pick up on this to join the "in" crowd so be prepared. I am excepting next laws for the ethical treatment of vegetables and fruits to become a reality around here. Sheesh..
Happy New Year, though to everyone for you are all a great group and I love reading, daily all the posts!

Here’s ours!
”BOSTON (WWLP) – Massachusetts has recently implemented a law that bans states from selling or shipping pork to the Commonwealth if they do not meet strict hog-housing restrictions. However, 13 states are fighting this new law stating it will cost pork producers hundreds of millions of dollars.”

Expecting not excepting.... sorry

Pork is already very limited in the local grocery stores. I bought some pork chops yesterday and they were horrible quality. I just hope other online retailers don't pull the plug on us as well. We also got a new 11% tax on all types of ammunition (on top of sales tax) on Monday.

We will likely start state shopping this spring. CA has officially been ruined.

Anyone else outside of MA seeing this? I’m supposedly on my last year of WF subscription (renewed 12/2023) because they do not have physical stores in Kentucky, but this is the first I’ve heard of this. If I’d paid for an annual subscription and then could not get pork, I’d not be happy either!

Chops were over $7 a pound yesterday at WM, now I know why. The pork coolers were also empty at Costco, which is why we looked at WM. I’m going to have to drive to another state just for pork.

I don’t grocery shop at Walmart, but the locals are complaining that there are no eggs in the two WM stores nearest to me. What happened in the supply chain now?

Meanwhile in Texas, my state, we passed Prop 1 in Nov 2023 by 75%

Prop 1 in a nutshell is

“This amendment was designed to cut down on regulatory overreach and ensure agencies have clear and convincing evidence before any new regulations can be created. This also protects farmer’s ability to continue generally accepted farming practices and prevents government agencies from generating regulations to stop or deter those farming practices.”

So farmers control their farms, not politicians. My Wild Fork down the road seemed stocked last week, as did Costco today for pork but I’ll keep an eye out.

Left CA 20 years ago, haven’t looked back

Oh we also had our fifth Christmas "Spare the Air Day" in a row where burning wood was banned. Nevermind that we have no less than five oil refineries, numerous chemical plants, plenty of industry, etc. in our area, but noooo, it's fireplaces and barbeques that are the issue. No one where I presently live complied with this overreach, but I used to live in another area where one of the air quality management district inspectors lived and he would drive around his own neighborhood citing his neighbors.

Just gotta find me a new state.

Yep, we smoked plenty on our RT during those five days. Lucky we live in an anti-Gavin town. No one would complain.

Welcome to your new home, Kentucky.
Could well be. I promise not to bring the politics and ludicrous ideals of some of my neighbors with me! The mass migration to TX, ID, NV, and FL from CA have pretty much burned any bridges I may have previously considered travelling. I really liked eastern WA in a few visits, but I'm afraid that state is just following the CA playbook and on their way to a San Francisco inspired "poop map" in Seattle and surrounding areas.

As a lifelong warshtonian, you're not wrong. 😕

@Greg Jones' suggestion is certainly viable. Just a few miles south of him in east TN you will find a bunch of retired "lawmen" and other first responders around the Knoxville area. I believe you are acquainted with one fella who operates Lawman Rub and escaped from your present state in the not distant past. Come look around. There's something for just about everyone.
