Help! Just got my grill, planned to cure the grill and my smoker won’t get to 400! Stuck at 325. It’s about 20 degrees here, no wind. This is a problem right? Super frustrated! Help!

you can call the owners maybe. also if you wrapped your drip tray with foil make sure the foil stays inside the edges of your pan. if it hangs over it could be restricting flow. how long did you let it run? also if you call the owners let us know how that goes. not sure if anyone on here has done it

I tried to get it up to 400 three separate times. First couple of times it got an Error 2. After a about a half an our each time. Then I cleaned out the pot. Took out the foil And started it again, this time it ran for prob an hour plus, I ramped up set to like 485. but couldnt get over 350 or so. I’m thinking even with the cold that’s not normal

i agree. thats not normal. any chance your pellets could have gotten damp?

No they are dry but cold. Does the little air vent on the side need to be open or closed. I had it open.

Might be a dumb question but is the fan running?

Make sure pellets are dumping into the pot as well. Maybe it just is not fully primed if the fan is running.

What model?

It’s an RT-700. And yes the fan was running the whole time. Thought that would be normal. It’s not?

Runs most of the time.. on low it will sometimes cycle. For what you are trying to accomplish it should be 100%

Look at the pot when it is running. Are pellets dumping and burning at a steady rate? You have to remove the drip pan & diffuser of course. Just leave them off and observe what is happening. The auger feeding the pellets should be pretty much at 100% also trying to achieve temps. The ignitor should also be starting the pellets. If things are just smoldering it might need an adjustment. The pot would be possibly overflowing with pellets if this were the cause.

Yes I did notice that too, the auger was working. I almost thought it was dumping a bunch of pellets, maybe too much. It was kind of windy tho.

These run pretty good.. the blanket might help with pellet consumption but you should be able to hit 400 in 20 degrees without even if it takes a bit. 500 is another story with the factory auger.

Yes that’s why we got this smoker. You can see why I’m so disappointed right now. Just wondering if the wind is a factor. Or is there something in the smoker that’s not right.

I hear ya.. I would be also. They are pretty simple so if nothing is obvious I'm sure recteq will get on it. Verifying the temp is def a good suggestion Wslayer mentioned. It sounds like things are working.

Thank you Sdynak for the insight, I’m going to check on this and hopefully it’s just a thermometer that needs calibration or something
