I have an RT700 on the way and I am looking for pellets. I see all the brands have a "competition" type of pellet. What makes a blend "competition"? Is it just marketing or are they higher quality or what?

I think it's mostly just marketing. Here I buy the Academy Sports B&B Champion brand that are a mix of cherry, oak and pecan. I also have an RT700 on the way so will see how these work. Were recommended by a few of my friends.

I think it's just a popular blend of woods - cherry, hickory, etc. Nothing makes it competition other than it's well rounded.

Agreed, it's just marketing. I know a blend labeled as "Pitmaster's Choice" and others as "Competition" or "Supreme". They're usually a mix of 3-4 wood types. My rule of thumb is they be 100% of wood types that I'd use on their own (not filler types).

Give the "competition blend" a try pretty good. But if you have a chance to try Lumberjack, I highly suggest.
