its really just for rain. so wide open is what most do. mine is still like factory so probably 2inches. with these grills you dont have to adjust air flow to maintain temps. your pid will keep it were you want it. hope that helps
Keep in mind the RT-700 has a fan blowing air into the cook chamber, which moves smoke out the exhaust. It's not like adjusting the stack on other cookers where managing the draft is part of helping control things.
Thanks for the info. The question came because as I was watching the smoker roll I noticed the cap was lower than normal. The hadn’t touched and no one was home but me. .
That got me thinking.
