Random swings actually turned the top of the grill black. Adjusted the feed rate it has leveled out some.are they random swings mid run? or is it overshooting after opening the lid? if its overshooting dont try to open the lid to vent the heat or else the grill will see the temp drop and will feed more pellets to stop the drop. if its mid run and random and your pellets are in good shape and your aluminum foil on drip tray is not overhanging the lip of tray you may have a problem with the grill that would be best answered by rec teq.
What temperatures did this wide swing occur? Did you have the door / lid open to sneak a peak??Hello, Just got my 590. Trying to do a brisket but I keep having big swings in the temp any suggestions?

First cook, adjusting the feed rate really settled it down. Holding a nice constant temp now.How many cooks have you done on the grill? As weird as it sounds, sometimes it takes a few cooks for the controller to settle in.
Temp swings in new recteq grills are common for the first 2-3 cooks. Adjusting the feed rate has no effect on temp swings, only on setting the minimum grill temp.First cook, adjusting the feed rate really settled it down. Holding a nice constant temp now.
