Bull Mice Issues

Hi everyone. I just received my 700. Can't wait to get smoking. I remember reading on a forum on FB page that some people were having issues with mice making a nest inside their grill during the winter months by most likely going up the grease spout. I was wondering what everyone did to try to prevent that. Obviously I could put steel wool inside the spout but would have to remember to take it out before each cook or have one big mess! Any suggestions/ideas would be appreciated. Thanks.

Welcome and Congrats on your Bull. You are going to love that cooker. I have had my 680 for four years. It sits out on my deck all year round uncovered. As of today I have never had a mouse issue with the pit. I will add my property line butts up to a wooded area so the pit is only about 35 feet from woods.

Plug for the grease spout, cap for the chimney and grill for the fan, should keep the critters out of the Bull.

Where did you get the grill for the fan and what did you use for the cap for the chimney? Thanks again.

The grill for the fan I used was something I got from work, air bag shipping containment cages. You could use some hardware cloth obtained from a mom and pop hardware store, Home Depot or Lowes to make the fan grill. The chimney cap came from a large container of peanuts and is 4.5 inches in diameter, any lid the same size or larger than the chimney would work.

I had issues with rats or mice eating holes into my screen where my 700 is. I tried traps..home remedies, etc. The only thing that has worked is the Victor sonic plug ins. I have 2 on the porch. They are at Home Depot..$18.00 for a 3 pack. Have not had holes or droppings since.

Painters Tape over the grease spout and my back vents, haven't seen a mouse turd since.

Piece of wood in the drip spout and a plastic peanut butter jar cap over the vent. No problems. I fight the mice and the palm rats constantly on all my other grills and smokers.

Good luck.

How did you mount the grill cage? Does it just fit in there or did you use screws? Thanks.

I removed the two lower screws pushed the grill into place, it's a friction type fit. Once installed I reinstalled the screws but they don't attach to or hold the grill in place.
