Stampede Where to place 8 pound Boston Butt for a low and slow

That's the problem; it's new and this is the first long cook with the only other cook being a steak. I don't know what to expect. I know the basics as I had an older pitboss vertical smoker and a couple of Big Green Eggs. I don't know the difference that 4 hours at 180 vs 4 hours at 200 or 225...

Good point. The lack of a smokestack had me confused about how this thing will perform. I guess experience is the best teacher

Stampede The RecTeq phone app and an overNight cook on the 590

Thanks for that warning. After buying the 590, extra probes are not in the budget. I may have to resort to a GoFundMe or hope for a gift or something. LOL.

Stampede Where to place 8 pound Boston Butt for a low and slow

I know the firepot is in the center of the 590, but is that the best lace to put a Boston Butt? I have modified my plans slightly. The butt will go on at 180 at 7:00 PM this evening then go to 225 about 4 hours later and stay there for the rest of the night. If needed (probably not needed) I...

Stampede The RecTeq phone app and an overNight cook on the 590

How do I set alerts for loss of temperature? So far all I have seen is alerts for the meat reaching my preferred internal temp. Thanks Okie. I have rain forecast for Saturday night which is when I wanted to do it. But now I am planning on Friday night. I have plenty of pellets so I’ll do a...

Stampede The RecTeq phone app and an overNight cook on the 590

I want do an overnight cook on my 590. Is there anything I should do to prepare for this other than filling the pellet hopper all the way to the top? Is there anything I should do in the app to alert me to problems? I will be doing a 9 pound Boston Butt overnight starting at about 9 PM due to...

Just bought a 700. Never owned a smoker before

Congratulations. If you are just learning then Youtube is your friend. Seach it for your RecTeq model and You will find lots of videos on how to use it and smoke any type of meat. Search for the other RecTeq models too as they are all similar in how they work/smoke/cook. ABove all, enjoy it.

    Stampede Burn in complete

The rain just missed us so while I got a much later start than I hoped for I was still able to do my first cook tonight. I did two baked potatoes and a sirloin steak. I used the app to start up the 590 and I used it to control the temps, set a timer for the potatoes and set an alarm for the temp...

They didn’t. It rained so no I had to abort. I was going to do them today but rain is moving in again. Very frustrating.

    Stampede Burn in complete

I have a brick patio area so I moved the 590 to the other end of the patio and I seem to be okay. This also helped with my wifi connection and put the grill closer to the door into the kitchen so I am happy. The problem with living in the mountains is that nothing is flat and the patio was put...

Stampede Won't be selling my gas grill anytime soon!

i'm new to RecTeq having just done my burn in this morning. But I consider my 590 as a smoker for low and slow cooks though I may grill on it too. I have a Big Green Egg MiniMax that I will be using for charcoal cooks along with a fire pit. I'll probably end up getting the cheapest gasser I can...

    Stampede Burn in complete

I did my burn in this morning and all went well. It took about 17 minutes to get up to 400 and it shot past that that to 405 then dropped to 400. It stayed between 397 and 402 for the rest of the burn in with most of the time at 400. I can't ask for better than that. I noticed during the burn...
