Well, the RT-340 Trailblazer officially has a new big brother. The Napoleon Prestige 500 (propane version) has joined the party at our new house. And while this grill is not made in the USA, it is also not made in China; it is made in Canada.

Assembly and testing will be tomorrow. Now, to get Lil’ Brother Trailblazer moved down to the new house and we’ll back in the “Backyard Cooking” business.

Nice. Is that the brand that has the cool looking squiggly shaped grates? Lighted knobs look nice.

thats a beautiful grill! i looked up the specs. 80,000 btu is going to be fantastic for searing. i also noticed it has an infrared side burner, do you plan to sear with that also? let us know how it’s working for you, im definitely interested.

Yes, the side burner is for searing and reaches…wait for it…1800F. Now, that’s a searing temperature! With just my wife and I most of the time, we’ll use the side burner frequently as we particularly enjoy beef filets.

Geez, here we go again. What do I buy next under the cover of darkness and questionable auspices of, "But honey it was a deal too good to pass up,"? You all really do make this difficult.

Well, the most interesting part of this addition to the cooking ensemble is that I was ordered by my wife to buy it.

Wow! I am very impressed with how this grill was packed and shipped. First, no issues with delivery; it was here on the promised day with notifications from both BBQGuys and the shipper (R+L Carriers) saying it was ”out for delivery.” When the truck arrived, the driver was very willing to roll it up our long driveway and into the garage,

There was not even a scuff on the box that was securely strapped to a pallet. Upon opening the box, I was amazed at the amount of well-designed packing material inside; cradles, dividers and small cartons with spacers to keep everything from shifting. And, each part was in a clear plastic bag; side, back and floor/top panels, main grill body, etc. After a very careful inspection, I was unable to find a single scratch, dent or other blemish. Again, WOW!!!

I took my time unpacking all the pieces and checking them against the inventory. Everything was there. Due to the intricate packing, it took significantly longer to get it unpacked and the copious amount of cardboard cut up to fit in the recycle bin. As a result, this old guy decided it was time for a rest break. We have family coming over for an early dinner as we’re all going to an event this evening, so assembly will have to wait until tomorrow. I will do a read-through of the assembly instructions this afternoon so I’ll be ready for Act 2 tomorrow.

Congrats, I am under strict no more grills, for now. I have the 590, Bullseye and the Blackstone. They work for what we need now. Slightly interested in the new 380 BX. I think I paid 299 or 399 for my Bullseye which is still working great!

My wife does not like smokey flavor as much as I. She does like the steaks on the Blackstone. Or I sous vide and then sear, which has caused me to overcook a few steaks so I bought a Sear Pro torch last week. Cant wait to use it! Stand by.

I actually had a Holland Propane grill, which did not flare up, but was difficult to use. I understand they are coming out soon with new versions.

I am curious as to how this goes for you.

Did you ever do your outdoor kitchen?

Hi, @Pops. The “outdoor kitchen” is still a pipe dream, but it will eventually get done. Getting the new grill and moving the RT-340 Trailblazer to the new house will be the first step. Looking for nicer weather before we actually start anything with the rest of the project.

If that is your garage, it is just WAAAYYY too clean!

Napoleon Grills are super nice and the quality is great, I miss my old built in. I will replace my current one with a new Napoleon soon.

If my Weber would ever die I’d go Napoleon too, great grills. 23 years and still going, I average about 5 uses a week year round, that’s just shy of 6000 cooks. Wish my cars lasted as well.

My F150 is close to that, 20yrs and still going. Never had a grill last that long (yet).
Gassers have never lasted very long for me - I think it's a catch22 situation, where I never really liked gas - so I never spent good money on gas, so they don't last, so I don't like them. o_O
(current gasser is a $600 Kenmore - meh)

Assembly update: It is going a bit slower than I expected. The assembly instructions are “wordless workshop;” drawings without any clarifying words. They leave something to be desired! Some of the inset drawings are so small and indistinct that is is hard for these old eyes to decipher them.

Fortunately, there are several good assembly videos on U-Tube and they have helped greatly. Interestingly, one of the videos was produced by Napoleon and, again, is wordless. Words must be really expensive in Canada! The video did answer a number of my questions, however.

I have the base (cart) portion assembled and will wait for my son-in-law to come over (likely tomorrow) to help lift the grill body into place; it is a two-person job and the wife is unable to help due to some health issues.

So.... If Ikea made a barbeque...

Shall we set up the over/under wagering on leftover/missing screws yet?!?

I got that grill several months ago. Hands down the best gas grill I have ever owned. I make the best Neapolitan pizza in it. It can get a pizza stone over 900 degrees, but I have found around 700 is the best temp for me for pizza. Also, the rotisserie is amazing with the special rotisserie back burner. It makes the best chicken and prime rib rotisseried. Also love all the rotisserie attachments for wings, fish and veggies. The steak sear station is second to none. You are going to love your new grill. Now to cook some ribs on my recteq.
