    HUGE props to customer support

It’s a fact of life where I live. As mentioned in my previous reply, I’m about 70 yards from the Pacific Ocean. It’s murder on metal.

That’s part of the heat blanket. Despite the fact that most areas around me are going through a heat-wave, I live about 70 yards from the Pacific Ocean so it’s always relatively cool, and often with a moderate to strong wind. The heat blanket really helps keep the cook chamber temp consistent.

    HUGE props to customer support

A week ago I was about to grill some streaks and found that my blower fan had seized up completely. I've occasionally had i seize and if I just gave it a nudge it started working. Not this time. I started to get a little panicky because Labor Day weekend was coming up. But I figured I could...

Bull Already rusting after only 3 weeks :-(

I'm trying really hard not to respond with a snarky response. I'll just assume you didn't read the rest of the thread and only read the original post. If you read through the thread, particularly this post from me...

Bull Already rusting after only 3 weeks :-(

Yeah .... I thought I was really clever when I came up with it 22 years ago. Now, not quite so much - but I've been using it so long, and it's generally unique enough that it's often available when setting up a new username, so I continue to use it. Sorry ... I did contact them - more...

    Bull Temperature chart offline

Yes, that was one of the first things I tried. No luck with that.

    Bull Temperature chart offline

FWIW, yesterday I had the offline issue again. I changed the time resolution settings and it came back. Slightly annoying I have to do that, but at least it's an easy work-around!

Bull Already rusting after only 3 weeks :-(

Thanks all for the recommendations and suggestions. I just got off the phone with rec tec support. They too were surprised at the speed of rusting and are sending out a new ring because that was the worst of the spots. They recommended using Cameo instead of barkeeper's friend - they said it...

    Bull Temperature chart offline

Thanks guys. I just found another thread which seems to indicate that changing the unit settings can "recover" it even after it starts showing offline. My previous search didn't come up with it, possibly because I think I only searched this (rt-700) forum and the other thread is in the lounge...

    Bull Temperature chart offline

I would actually have assumed that setting update rate should have no impact on their buffering/storage. Since you can change the resolution at any time and it shows that resolution from the beginning of the cook, I would assume changing that only changes how the data is viewed, not how it's...

    Bull Temperature chart offline

So far, every single one of my cooks that has gone past about 1.5-2 hours ends up with the temperature chart saying it's offline and doesn't show me anything. It works fine up until that point, and even though it says it's offline, all of the control and monitoring functions work correctly...

Bull Already rusting after only 3 weeks :-(

Yeah, I just sent a message to them about 10min ago. :-) Thanks again for all your help and suggestions. I also ordered some of the barkeeper's friend and the twinkle.

Oh, I meant to ask - what commercial stainless steel aerosol do you use? Is it something the average Joe can buy, or do you need to be a restaurant/commercial business?

Bull Already rusting after only 3 weeks :-(

I understand it's surface rust, but in my experience once rust starts, that's the beginning of the end and it's a losing battle. I really hope you're right about it still lasting for a while, otherwise my wife is never going to let me hear the end of it. When she found out what I was going to...

Bull Already rusting after only 3 weeks :-(

OK, I guess when I was reading the specs I (incorrectly) mentally conflated fire pot with cooking chamber. I do see now as I'm re-reading it that it lists the two separately and only says stainless steel for cooking chamber and 304 stainless for fire pot. Woof - that looks like it was a pretty...

Bull Already rusting after only 3 weeks :-(

The ring is definitely not drippings. At first I thought the areas of the cooking chamber might be drippings, but I tried pretty hard to clean it and it didn't come off and it looks far more like the familiar staining of rust on stainless than it does drippings.

Bull Already rusting after only 3 weeks :-(

I'm not sure I fully understand how that's possible, at least for the rust shown in the second photo. That's part of the cooking chamber, which is reported to be 304 stainless. Are you saying that they use two layers of steel for the cooking chamber, with the inside being 304 and the outside...

Bull Already rusting after only 3 weeks :-(

Thanks for the reply and the suggestions. I appreciate it. I doubt that it's the cover for a number of reasons: 1) It hasn't rained here in several months, certainly not since I got the rectec. 2) I've never had water go through the seams of that cover, and the weber grill with which I...

Bull Already rusting after only 3 weeks :-(

I was really hoping this grill (rt-700) would last longer than most. But I just got it on June 1 and it's already rusting. :-( I'm trying to cover it as best I can, but the covers were out of stock when I bought it (and still are). I'm using an old weber cover, but it doesn't completely...
