Performed Routine Maintenance Now My Bull Won’t ignite At All

Hello All. I out the firebox by hand, used a shop to scoop up all the accumulated ash/dust , etc., recharged the fire box with a small handful of pellets, then I smoked a whole chicken. No problems. Now, my et-700 refuses to ignite at all.

Any suggestions?

I’m confused (easily done, BTW) regarding the connection between “routine maintenance” and the grill not igniting the pellets. If I read your description correctly, you smoked a chicken AFTER doing the routine maintenance. If that is correct, then it would appear that the grill worked fine after the routine maintenance was done.

Apparently, after that cook, the grill refuses to ignite the pellets. Is that correct? And, if so, did you do anything different after the chicken cook? There’s always the possibility that through sheer coincidence, the igniter failed after the chicken cook.

Age of the grill?
Age of the chicken?
Did you flood the firebox with chicken juice?

Start a handful of pellets with a propane torch, see if you can cook something. It may dry out your igniter if that is the issue. If a wet igniter is not the issue, but everything else works - it's a warranty call and you learn to replace the igniter. Not hard at all.

I've been waiting to pop in my latest replacement, because it's been so cold out. I vac out the firepot, torch some pellets and the recteq does the rest. It's still so much easier than charcoal or anything else. I'll put in the replacement this spring I guess...

You can look up online how to put your grill into test mode. The test RecTeq CS will have you do is empty your firepot completely and just turn on the igniter(in test mode) and put a piece of paper to the igniter. Maybe your igniter went out?

I know this b/c my dad's bullseye was taking like 15 minutes to start smoking, I won't of believed it if I didn't witness it. I told him to call and he did. Even though his Bullseye is over 3 years old, they gave him an igniter free of charge and free shipping. And for those who don't know, Bullseye warranty is only 2 years and they still honored it. Pretty cool!

Firmware update failed
He threw it out on the curb
Washed his hands of all things recteq

And…maybe…he’s just busy with things that don’t involve checking into an Internet forum right now.
lol. That is exactly correct. I work full time. But things have also changed a bit. I replaced the small handful of pellets in the firebox in case they were damp. Tried to fire the Bull up again and it worked ok. But it “struggled” to reach 425 which has never happened before (even in seriously cold temperatures (4 degrees for example). It’s under a roof and sheltered from wind, etc.

At this point I’m thinking a call to customer service is in order.

Problem apparently solved. I suspect that this was a self-inflicted wound that occurred when I used the test mode to cold smoke cheese. My thinking is that as I was moving through the various test parameters to get to the blower setting, I must have inadvertently turned the dial on something and screwed up one or more of the settings.

I googled how to reset to the original factory settings, which I’ve never deliberately changed, and found a PDF copy of the RecTeq manual online. It includes instructions for the reset procedure. I followed those instructions and it appears that my problem is solved.

Glad to hear that you’ve apparently solved the problem. In the words of the old cartoon character, Pogo; “We have met the enemy and they is us.” 🤣

Self inflected without sharing with SWNBN is way better than a product failure. That said, in my house SHE would give me the what for since I fix/ do everything, happened bad on a customers car one time. I have never lived it down because SHE told me what was wrong based on listening to me on other jobs. O the pain. 😩

Really glad for you it is good to go, cooking is on!

Thanks for the well wishes. But (being “acronym challenged”), I have to ask….what does SWNBN mean ???😎

Do like I do........

Hand her the wrench, say "have a good time" and walk away.

I’m late to this thread but after cleaning my RT-700 and installing the PCS RackWorks hardware, my grill had a “hard time” starting up. I still had the deflector plate, grease pan, and all shelves out when I started it. I had a small amount of pellets in the fire pot. After 5 minutes after power-on, I had no smoke…no ignition. I powered off and unplugged the grill for 3 minutes. Plugged it back in and powered on. It still seemed to have taken more than the 3 minutes that it usually takes to get some smoldering smoke. About 2-3 minutes later, the fire finally ignited. I breathed a sigh of relief and put the deflector plate, grease pan, and shelves back in and went on with my seasoning process for the new shelves.

I thought that was the end of “that” but had a similar issue when I started the grill Sunday morning to start my ribs. I haven’t been able to get back to troubleshooting yet. I need to find the documentation about “test mode”. I’ve heard yall mention it occasionally but never investigated it. Now I’m thinking I need to. Maybe resetting the controller would be a good first step. 🤷🏼‍♂️
