Potentially moving the handle was the reason I went with the Magnum PIG as opposed to the Smokai. Looking at it now, I wonder if you could just extend the outlet tube enough to clear the handle?
I noticed some smoke in my pellet hopper (more than the barrel honestly) so I took some Lava Lock and sealed it tight. Haven’t had an issue since.

Have you cooked solely with the competition pellets without issue since noticing the problem?
Could you possibly have a build up of dust in the hopper/auger?
I like to smoke the eye on low for an hour or so before adding garlic/rosemary/thyme, vacuum sealing and dropping into a sous vide bath at 131 for 30 hours. Into an ice bath and then fridge overnight before throwing on the slicer.
