I ordered a Bull yesterday. This will be my first pellet grill, and first time using any grill in about 15 years. I purchased a cover, grill accessories,, shelf, etc. What are some things you wish someone had told you about when you got your bull, or first pellet grill? I appreciate the advice.

I wish someone would have told me that RecTeq can't keep their grills notifications functional during holidays or other high-demand times which is pretty much the most important times to need your notifications working. Pretty much negates the primary reason I bought one. They don't seem to care to fix it either.

You mean, like temp notifications to the app? That sounds like it would be detrimental.

Yes. It breaks completely. As in set two meat probes to alert @ 140 degrees for an Easter ham & end up with 170+ degree ham-flavored leather.

With all due respect don't put all your faith in the world of gadgets.

If you do, a backup is good.
I agree with this . I have a variety of "leave in the meat" temp monitors including those on the 700. They all can be a little unreliable. Therefore I use them to monitor until the meat gets in the neighborhood of my target temp. Then I go to my hand held instant read and check temps frequently.

Agree these grill meat probes get you into the ballpark and I do the same at you using my trusted MK4 to get to the final results.

Congrats and welcome!

I came to this from a similar background: 20+ years without a grill and I'm loving my Rec Teq (Stampede).

There is a bit of a learning curve, but part of the fun is finding out what works for you and what doesn't.

This can/will quickly become an obsession. My advice: don't fight it, embrace it!

We're talking about something that should work. We're also talking about this in hindsight now and armed with what we now know to be true... of course I'll use a secondary meat probe setup. That or I'll just get a grill that makes their WiFi functionality a priority which is most likely. The important point here is that I shouldn't HAVE to have redundant temperature sensing alarms. After all, I paid a premium for a device that advertises to do all of that for me.

So defensive... Forgive me for not saying only good things about Recteq.
Not defensive at all. Just wondering if you've communicated with the appropriate person, who might do something about it, in addition to posting on a forum.

And if you bothered to know me, you'd know I've voiced my own criticisms of RT.

I don't have a 700 so beyond stating that a company selling a $1K grill with WiFi based temp monitoring as a selling point should ensure backend services are solid I have no reason to call them for that.

I do need to call them this week about my 380 and repeated flameouts this weekend plus the temp sensor being inaccurate as hell.

If it's that important to you contact RT, I'm sure they would love to hear from you.
