I’m thinking you miss the point. A pellet ‘smoker’ (or a stick burner for that matter) should produce smoke. We know a Chevy is not a Mercedes but a smoker should smoke. I bought a BFG and while I love the convenience it is a bit of a pisser to have to modify an expensive piece of equipment so...
I’ve had my BFG for a couple of years and have been severely disappointed with the lack of smoke. This looks like a good solution. Don’t you find it sad to invest significant cash in the unit then have to modify it? Wish I had never purchased it.
Absolutely NOT! Smoke generation is a real problem with the BFG. You will find many posts on this forum about techniques to generate enough smoke. So basically, the BFG is just an expensive outdoor oven.
I have dealt with this for the last 2 years. It is a solid built piece of equipment but the ‘smoke’ is weak.
My solution is to fill 2 smoke tubes with pellets and place them on the heat defuser. That will generate about 1.5 to 2 hrs of smoke. Cant refill tho...
I prefer bone-in. The only difference I’ve found is in the ‘ease of preparation’. I’ve had to tie up the boneless to hold it together. I have not noticed any difference in finished product.
This is an ongoing problem with the BFG. There are work arounds but it is very frustrating to drop this amount of money on a smoker that does’t really smoke.
I have owned my 2500 for a year now. Here are some honest observations. 1. It is a quality built product top to bottom. That being said I was shocked at the relative lack of smoke. I was an old stick burner used to a fair amt of smoke. You wont get that with this unit. Most every one adds...
I was cooking last weekend in the rain on my BFG. Living in Florida it happens on occasion. Just keep your hopper dry. A popup awning will help keep you dry, the smoker will be fine.
I have had my Bullseye for 2 weeks and I can tell you that its versatility far outstrips any gas grill. Plus there is NO comparison when comparing the quality of construction of a Bullseye vs any Weber.
I have read this thread with interest. I am a former stick burner (Lang 84) and am used to a fair amount of smoke. When I did my 1st cook on my BFG I was so shocked with the lack of smoke that I was on the phone with customer service while I was cooking thinking that it wasn’t working correctly...
