I clean the barrel/firebox every 5 cooks or so, using lumberjack pellets, various flavor and do not have this flying ash problem in my Bull. I also use a pizza oven in my bull and never seen any ash flying around with that (which sits direct on top of the firebox)

I've been using LumberJack in my 700 no issues. last night I did venison brats and temp was 535, so they burn well. We have Rural King stores here and they sell 'em for 8.99 per 20lb bag.

ALso if you listen closely you will HEAR the auger kicking on - My 700 has a very disctinct whirrr from the auger.
