Funny this was brought up. Yesterday I went to my local ACE which I rarely go to and in between the Tragers I see this one smoker I thought I recognized and walked over to it and it was a large RT (might have been a Beast) at $1250.
There is a product sold on Etsy that makes the controls mounted at an angle that makes viewing alot better. Does anyone see a negative about installing this? I would probably want to put a gasket or a thin beat of silicone around it to make sure it's water tight.
Here is mine. Minor changes, but it makes it mine. The shelf is made from a piece of sugar maple that has the holes in it from seasons of sugaring in late winter and a wrap for the front cover. The holes were filled with resin and the whole thing was sealed with spar urethane.
A good digital thermometer is a must (I use a ThermoWorks lollipop)
Good set of gloves
2nd level rack
sharp knives
cutting board
folding shelf
cold beer
I'm 8 cooks in with my RT-590 and am wondering why I didn't do this years ago. I have made this shelf for my RT-590. It's from a sugar maple with tap holes I filled with resin and left the live edge.
The one thing I have found that is useful from Masterbuilt is their standalone Slow and Cold Smoker Accessory Attachment. It uses chips, but works great is you want to cold smoke cheeses and fish.
They also make a screw on lid for the 5 gallon buckets. Been using these for years with no issues keeping the water out. https://truefoodsmarket.com/products/gamma-seal-lid-for-plastic-pail-1-each
