Personally of the ones I've tried, in order of preference
Bear Mountain gourmet blend. First ones I used. Good flavor, and my Bullseye ran consistent temps out of the gate with them
Sam's Club Smokehouse brand premium Hardwood blend. Similar to the Bear Mountain Gourmet Blend. Very...
I have the Reqtec covers for both my Bullseye and RT-300. They spend the whole time outside. I don't have any worries when it rains as long as they are covered. And the ReqTec covers for properly and keep the water out
I bought the updated controller for my RT-300, I recently picked up, and was able to hit 650 with that on "full". That was using Treager apple wood pellets that came with the smoker.
That's a big open ended questions. For me, it depends on which vehicles I have, as each one has its own Facebook groups and websites. And for the most part, Facebook groups have taken over internet forums, and almost made them obsolete. When I'm looking for a new group for information on...
I'm a car guy, but enjoy hunting as well. Spend too much money on my vehicles to have a lot of guns though. Gun pics are just my Hi-Points I have. Have a few others in the safe as well, but no pics of them. Ram and the 1966 D100 are current drivers for me. The Dakota is broken in the garage...
Started off with Bear Mountain Gourmet Blend and really liked them. Also tried the Bear Mountain Mesquite. Then bought some of the Sam's Club brand. Got a bag of the Bourbon Barrel, didn't really care for the smoke flavor from them on most meats, and just finished them off. Have some of the...
My RT-300 I picked up locally s few weeks ago came with a hopper full ot RT ultimate bland and the remainder of the bag. I was surprised when I saw how long some of the pellets were. I remember reading on the Bullseye Facebook group that Reqtec recommended pellets no longer than 3/4" and...
Grew up using Lawrys, and always had it in my cupboard spice shelf. Then found Cookies Flavor Enhancer and have switched to that for a general all purpose seasoning. I like the flavor from the Cookies better than Lawry's.
I have not experience this large offset you mention on mine. Verified with Inkbird probes. Set mine to 225 and it will hold 225 +/- 20-30 degrees for the most part. In those temp swings, as it's cooling back off, it really smokes. I have only tried "lo" once and it has worse temp swings, but...
Don't need to use it on every cook, just those that might have more "drippings". Chicken thighs drip quite a bit when cooked as they have more fat in them.
In situations like that, I always pull the meat, raise the temp, then put the meat back on after reaching the new temp. Also cooking hind quarters, they can drop a lot of juices, and probably a good idea to have a drip pan under them to prevent flame ups.
Just picked up a RT-300 locally from Facebook classifieds. Paid $150 for it. Needed a good cleaning, but have used it several times and has been flawless with cooks. This is to compliment my Bullseye I got back in April. Nothing wrong with the Bullseye, but figured I'd get this for longer...
I have t had any issues with smoke and setting to 225 and letting it cook without opening the lid. Temps will fluctuate some, but not enough to make a difference on the longer cooks. Have done a couple pork butts, a brisket flat, and some spare ribs. All came out great. Also do a reverse...
