I actually have been hearing that however I replaced mine when it was so new I didn’t know any different. I cant say for certain it isn’t the fan however for me it’s an intermittent clicking so I wouldn’t think it’s the fan but what do I know? I’d sure like to know what it is though.
You might want to check out this forum post. It might just change your grilling life with the Bull.

I reverse seared some filets this past weekend. My wife likes hers well done. So I just pulled hers from the initial smoke at a temp of 135 then seared. I cut into it for her and she still thought it was a little pink. (I immediately called my divorce lawyer to start the papers - Not really)...
The 3rpm motor takes this from a smoker that will grill to a true grill/pellet smoker. Heck if Recteq doesn’t pay attention to this then I just might start my own pellet grill company and use what we learned here and quit dentistry sooner rather than later.
As an old school gamer who played Doom back in the day, BFG will always stand for Big Freaking Gun and yes you may replace Freaking with something a little more naughty but I wanted to keep things PG.
It sounds like the RTD is too close to the wall. That was a problem I had initially and I angled it away from the wall as directed by customer support and that helped tremendously.
It was me that ordered the BFG auger only to be sent another 2rpm auger. The new 3rpm is a beast and works like a charm. I’m reverse searing a couple filets tonight and I set the grill at 225 I initially and then went to 215 to avoid the overshoot. It did not like the 215 as the fan continually...

That would be interesting to see.
By the way the GrillGrate plates for the Bull are out of stock. I assume they would honor the discount when they come in though.
