The factory setting is 6.5. If you ever have to lower it, always go to 3.0, nothing in between. They'll tell you the same thing.

Updating the antenna isn't a bad idea, but in the end its tomato tomahtoe. The problem would be just as easily solved with a cheap wifi extender.
