I mix in 1 part charcoal pellets with 3 parts wood pellets and really like the flavor I get. Plus the smoke ring is enhanced IMO

My favorite pellets are the Lumberjack blend. But my "secret weapon" is adding 1/4 Pitboss Charcoal pellets mixed in with them (3 scoops of the Lumberjack with 1 scoop of the Charcoal). Zoom in on the picture I use for my avatar and you'll see a Tri-tip I smoked using that 3:1 blend. Fantastic...

I have been using pellet smokers for a few years. I just added an Amaz-n tube smoker and that adds enough smoke to make up the difference.

I had a little bit of smoke leakage on my 700, but not as bad a fit as yours seems to be showing. I bought a fireproof smoker gasket tape and that pretty much fixed it. Look around on several websites including amazon for best price. Good luck
