    Char Champion competition

I made round one, but need to step up the game. Here's more info. Your votes would be appreciated (and helpful). If I win, I've offered to fill it up with brisket for our local community, to try to get them involved too. I'm currently entered into a BBQ contest sponsored by Char Champ. It...

RT-1250 Smoke in Hopper after 500 degree cook

I talked to support when mine did this, with smoke coming out under the hopper as well. He said it happens sometimes, but the only things to really worry about were if I had too much pellet dust (so that it could quickly burn in the tube) or the fan wasn't working. It only happened at shutoff...

    Char Champion competition

It's really a good question. The site isn't laid out super intuitively, but I get the impression it's as much a popularity contest as anything. Pictures appear to matter, so I may need to up my photo-game. You can pick up more here - https://charchampion.com/dashboard. And here's a more general...

    Char Champion competition

This is a fun competition that just started. We definitely have some folks here who should enter. Grand prize is a custom Yoder smoker trailer plus a trip (for 2) to the American Royal World Series of BBQ and 5k cash. If you win, make sure to remember who told ya! Of course, I don't mind if you...

    Bull 3-2-1 ribs

Harry Soo has a moderated way to do the 3-2-1 ribs. But he did it more to show how it can be done rather than what he thinks should be done. His channel has several videos about how to cook ribs, but he usually doesn't use a pellet smoker.

New RT-1250 large griddle seasoning questions

If it's thick and sticky, then you probably put it on too thickly to start with. For seasoning, you only want a very light coat for each time. If you can see it run, then it's too thick for sure. If it's bad, you'll probably be better off scraping it off and starting over if you want a good...

700F on the 1250? Sear better?

We're looking at getting an induction plate for searing and outdoor skillet or pan cooking.

    Recteq App

A few days ago I tried to update the firmware, but it wouldn't load. It just sat at 0%. So I reinstalled and tried again. Still didn't work. Yesterday I tried using it for the first time. The probe and temp both showed current temp initially. I changed wifi routers on my phone and it updated...

    RT-1250 Shipping Damage

That stinks. I just received the 1250 and 340. They were in perfect condition (box was slightly torn on the surface. I was really impressed with the packaging and ease of unboxing. And I'll put the pallet to good use.

    Vac sealing newb question

I don't, but their 2300 came up in a few reviews when I was looking up sealers earlier.

    Vac sealing newb question

Great thread. After looking around, I think I'll get the 5800 Series from FoodSaver. It has some added features we don't need, but gets good reviews and there are some helpful videos highlighting its use. My main concern will be the automatic features failing in the long run. If you go to the...

What’s everyone cooking in their Recteq for Easter

We picked up the porterhouses and added some poppers and sausages to the 1250 for its inaugural cook yesterday. Everything came out great. The steaks didn't get that nice sear we're looking for. That's what the pan in the middle was for. I think I needed to just let the pan come up to heat...

Where does everyone buy meat for their smoker or grill

One way. I order from them sometimes and every now and then we make the trip to stock up. We just moved into a place, bought a new freezer, ordered a new fridge and are the lookout for another freezer, so we're still trying to figure out our routine.

Where does everyone buy meat for their smoker or grill

We order or pick up from Costco (two hour drive) and have a local butcher for special cuts. Being new to the area, we still have a lot to figure out for options. I'll be checking out Wild Fork now though!

What’s everyone cooking in their Recteq for Easter

We were talking about it yesterday. I think we'll just pick up a couple of porterhouses and make it easy. We have a ton of leftovers still from last week's smoke.
