Doing first Boston Butt tomorrow on Bullseye following this recipe
  • 8-10lb. Boston butt (pork shoulder)
  • 4 tbsp Dijon mustard
  • 1 cup molasses
  • 1/2 cup Rossarooski's Honey Rib Rub
  • 1/2 cup Casanova's Competition Rub
  • recteq Gourmet BBQ Sauce
off Recteq site.

When do you add and/or how do you use the BBQ Sauce

Thanks for any advice...

You can baste the butt 15-20 minutes before you pull it off to get a glaze. Some folks mix bbq sauce into the meat after they pull it apart. You can add sauce AND more rub to the pulled meat to add flavor if that’s your preference. Some don’t add until they eat it and some don’t add sauce at all. It’s all a matter of preference and tradition.

You could do it after your shred the pork. Shred it, add it to the pork and then mix it all together.

Shred the pork and leave the sauce on the side for others to added as they may

Last few minutes of it being ready to pull off the smoker mop it and then let it caramelize. Just remember, sause is full of sugar and sugar burns so dont walk away from it

Or leave the sauce in the cupboard and enjoy the taste of the meat and bark.

If I put sauce anything its pretty much in the last 1/2 hour to 20 minutes of the cook, for pulled pork I also sauce after it's pulled using Sweet Baby Ray's.
