I know for sometime in 2023 (maybe even in prior years and possibly continuing today) Recteq had a server bandwidth issue and on busy weekends and holidays the Temp alarm/notification feature on the App would not work as intended. So many Recteq owners use third party temp probes and notification/alarm devices and Apps. Did anyone use the Recteq probes & notification App this past holiday weekend and had issues - just wondering of its a past thing or still an issue?

Unfortunately, I have had enough problems with the RT app that I simply don’t use it any more. If it works better now, it wouldn’t matter to me; I’ve just moved on. I use the TW Signals and Meater 2+ devices for all temperature measuring. The RT grill simply provides the heat platform.

Same as Jim, I just don’t use the recteq app anymore. I just bought a new tablet, didn’t even install the recteq app.

Similar to you both I also use third party probes/devices for every cook but last Wednesday I did an overnight Brisket and in addition to my Meater + and Thermo Pro I decided to try the RT probe and App. It was very close in reading and reporting temps as my trusty TP and Meater+ and the alarm/notification worked but it was in the middle of the week - just wondering.

I used it for the Memorial Day weekend. The alerts and alarms were working fine during my 18hrs of smoker “on time”. The cook took about 16.5 hrs and everything worked fine. I don’t know if it makes a difference by I haven’t updated my firmware or software in almost a year.

I’ve not updated my firmware nor updated the app (if there was one). I’ve not had problems with the RT probes and app. But there’s a chance I’m not using my Bull as often as others. With the hotter weather settling in for the summer, I use the gasser (grill and/or griddle) for quick cooks more during the week.

Here’s my app experience today. It’s been on since 2. I ran a shelf full of thighs at 400. Dropped it down to low and put a prime rib on there. Just walked out to bump it to 275 because I have no remote ability. Time got away from me. Prime Rib at 10pm. It’s never a bad time for prime rib.

Connectivity issue? Any thought of trying to connect in single-band mode? Try 2.5GHz and 5.0GHz separately if you can.

Even though your grill is named and showing as “Off”, what happens when you tap your grill’s icon? Does it not go to the next screen where it would typically show the set temp and the actual cooking chamber temp?

Just making suggestions to check. I know you’re an experienced RT bbq veteran.

It goes to the next screen, and tells me it’s off.
I’ll probably try that other app that’s been discussed here. Nothing has changed here network wise, just app updates.

@SmokeOCD about a year or so back, they did an update to app and I was in your boat. Unlike you though my 700 will only connect to a 2.4 single band network. I had to access my router and split it into a 2.4 and a separate 5.0. I then went back through the first time set up process, blinking light, enter PW and it reconnected. I then remerged my router and have been fine since.
You have probably tried this but thought I would offer my experience with an event like this.

That’s how I’m connected…on the 2.5 band. That’s why I mentioned trying both band’s earlier because that’s all I could connect to. There’s probably a natural inclination to only try the 5.0 GHz band or, like me, select auto-detect. Mine never connected when I was on auto. That befuddled me.

For a long time, I had all kinds of grief keeping my grill connected. I had set up a separate 2.4 band connection on my dual-band Comcast/Xfinity router, but it was hit-and-miss at best.

Finally, I resurrected an old 2.4 GHz-only Apple AirPort Extreme router and connected it to the internet via the CAT-5 port on the Comcast/Xfinity cable modem. Then, I connected the grill to the dedicated 2.4 GHz router. This was a couple of months ago and since then, I have had no difficulty keeping the grill connected, even on weekends.

I’m no computer expert, but I’m thinking that just a software separation of the 2.4 GHz and 5 GHz bands on a dual-band router might not be enough in some cases. YMMV

Update: maybe today is not big enough of a holiday, but it’s displaying correctly and reporting temps.

Poor little server…

New update to the recteq iOS app is out today, for those masochistic enough to still be (attempting) to use the app. Just in time for the Holidays-buckle up!
As you well know, @Greg Jones, the “app” isn’t the real problem; it’s the RT servers that crap out every weekend and holiday. Until that gets fixed, there’s no hope for the app and wired probes.

So true and so sad all at the same time.

Yup, some still have a glimmer of hope that the app has been ‘updated’ because it is needed to work with the shiny new server enhancements!
