What "other ones?" There are a whole bunch of thermometers on the market; mostly made in China. Some are decent and some are junk. ThermoWorks has always produced top-quality products used by many cooking professionals. The ThermaPen One is a virtually instant-read, very accurate probe thermometer. I'm sure there are probably others out there of a similar quality.

I'm not peddling thermometers here. Many of the forum folks use TW products and like them. If they want a ThermaPen One right now, this is a good chance to get one at a very good price.

My two cents on Thermoworks. I was originally turned on to Thermoworks by a co-worker than moonlighted as a competitive BBQer. Accuracy is rock solid on every product I've purchased (quite a few!). They are thermometer people (although they have started selling some silicone cookware accessories...which are actually pretty nice). Other companies (even Recteq), thermometers are an add-on or afterthought. Warranty issues (even when it was technically my fault) are painless and ask minimal questions. Their stuff isn't cheap, but it seems like they're always having really good sales so patience is a virtue.

For all things thermometer, I see no need to look at other offerings at this point. The free jelly beans that come in every package helps me tap dance around my latest purchases when the package arrives!

Only thermometers I use now are from ThermoWorks.

Look at the battery life and battery. 2000 hours with a "triple-A" battery. Look at the waterproofing. Look at the automatic backlighting. Look at the accuracy. Look at the "user trim" adjustment capability. Look at the, look at the, look at the.......

If you can find the bucks, my honest recommendation is that everyone buy one of these for everything and everywhere you cook.

Like Jim6820 above, I have no financial interests in ThermoWorks. I do own Many of their products.

I have one from 2006 still going strong, isn't splash proof, doesn't have backlight, doesn't rotate. Works great. I love all the products they have. We give them as wedding gifts.

I just started teaching my next door neighbor's son (who is 15) the art of pellet grilling. Just last night I told him the first thing on his list of things he needs is a Thermapen.

He should start by learning how to clean the pellets first, IMHO 😁
