RT-1250 Temp Dropping Once High Temp Is Reached

While I wait for a callback from support I figured I'd ask here: I have done roughly 10 cooks on a new 1250. As soon as it hits around 620 (when set to full), it immediately starts a steady drop. There is only fan noise, the auger stops and, because of this, I start getting smoke in the hopper at roughly 550. The auger seems to turn fine during warmup.

Here what I have tried:

Empty and vacuum the hopper and vacuum the fire pot. There is only ash when I clean the firepot.
Tried 3 different pellets
Tested with and without the sear kit (it was suggested on my first call with support that its heat was causing the temp drop)

Is it common to hear a popping/crunching noise when the auger is actually turning? I assumed it's just pellets getting broken up.
