So did I make a bad decision ?

@Motodad1776 …..did you get a Silverbac? That’s what I almost bought 4 years ago. I ended up getting the RT-700.

As impressed as I was with Grilla Grills, I bought their Primate gasser with full-sized griddle accessory. Less than a year later, the inside stainless steel is rusted out. I’ve been working with their customer service for months. They finally (recently) sent me a new grill unit (the entire upper section not the base cabinet).

While I think highly of their customer support, when I look at the interior design I feel there are serious design problems. Beyond why I believe the rust is a design problem, they riveted those internal parts. Even the burner bars are riveted in so there’s no practical way to replace bad burners…and gas burners seem to always rust and require replacement. The upper grease tray that rusted on mine is riveted in. They were ordering me a replacement. Their expectation is that I would drill out the rivets and use sheet metal screws or nuts & bolts to secure a replacement in. Suffice to say, I’m disappointed in how it rusted. I’ll replace the upper grill unit and try to sell it. I’m too concerned the same thing is going to happen.

I say all of this to suggest caution. Like RecTeq, they’ve sold the company to someone. I can attest their support is good. You may want to look at a Silverbac first-hand to get your own assessment.

No sir I ended up with a Blackstone, has served me well so far. There are so many brands that are suffering in the quality aspect of things now, but I shall refrain from mentioning the main reasons why that is occurring. My 590 is still chugging along and I have never had a reason or need to contact RT, so I imagine this grill will continue to serve me well for years to come. :)

Did I violate forum etiquette by talking about my problem with my other grill? I had reservations about saying anything but felt it needed to be said to provide some food for thought and save someone $1,000.

I don’t see any problem; you were addressing an issue that had been raised. All good with me!

Nope. Plenty of discussions here about charcoal grills, gas grills, griddles, etc. Mike’s the boss here, but IMO i think the only thing that would violate forum etiquette would be if someone was trashing recteq grills while recommending another brand.

I was looking for some photos of the model I’d plates for my dishwasher and refrigerator, need a couple of small parts and ran into this. It has performed flawlessly with or without the remote start and in spite of now having to press the off button in the app for three seconds. I guess a was trolling so the speak the forum before it arrived to get a feel for people’s experiences with RT. This was March 2022. I guess the vid clouded my memory as I thought I joined and ordered in 2021 🤣

@Mike is very forgiving. Send him cash in a unmarked envelope and tell him you're sorry.

I'll assume that's when it was new? I ask because on mine that stainless steel between the bull horns and the rag ring is kind of ugly for the grease dripping. I had bought the "drip bar" that installs under the hood with the screws to the bull horns but can't seem to find the high-heat sealant that I had bought separately. And so my procrastinating self has gone for about 4 months not installing that drip bar. I may need to buy some more of that sealant. That was the purpose of my recent thorough cleaning. But then the brain fart. I bought some "stuff" to clean that outside stainless once I put that drip bar on. Hopefully, when I get it done it'll keep that area cleaner than before. Or, I can just leave the dried stuff on there and call them battle wounds...a source of cooking pride. LOL

Correct it was new but I had done a few cooks. My ring is still fine but I do need to clean some patina off the stainless. Those stains have no impact on performance. 🤣I could say the same that dirt does not impact my Harley but if I am riding it starts the ride washed, polished and shining. Except when on a road trip. Even then it gets a wiper with Shiners all over before we head out.

I agree....the Harley MUST be sparkleing clean before a ride 👍👍👍👍

Always been that way with all my bikes, now I am even worse with my latest European steed.

You have started your grill remotely using that plug? I could go for a tutorial on how you do that.
I just realized you still have to hit the power button on the smoker to get it to turn on. Never mind 🙁
