Probably just stressing over the mounting of those horns…
I inverted the horns on my 700 once. I felt that when I’d lift the lid with one-hand that it was “twisting” the lid a bit…maybe putting more pressure on the lid hinges. I kept it like that for a month or two before I put it back to normal.

It may not have had any long-term impact but it felt just awkward enough to me to not want to risk it. Call me crazy.

Nothing exciting, or even pellet grill related, but it’s a cold, slow day here and I was happy to complete my first Wok cook on the gas range here in South Carolina. I’ve always been reluctant to use any pan on a glass/induction stovetop where you need to agitate the pan which can damage the glass surface so I usually limit Wok cooking to outside on a grill. Smithey carbon steel Wok, mostly pork leftovers and vegetables but it turned out great! Go Bucs!

Speaking of Smithey (Charleston, SC) I have one more off-topic post for the week. I’m insanely addicted to cast iron/carbon steel cookware, so what I’m about to mention is NOT a recommendation to buy, but just a FYI. In the cast iron world, Wagner Ware is back with family backing of a griddle that is a near exact reproduction of the griddle they made decades ago.Could be from the original molds as near as I can tell.

In the late ‘90s I worked for a fertilizer company with its HQ in Sidney, OH where you could witness the final days of Wagner, one of the OG’s of USA made cast iron cookware. For that reason, I felt I needed to add this griddle to my inventory. Insanely priced (one can find the original Sidney griddles for less) but this is a well made piece and I hope they are successful. Not made in Sidney, OH but it is USA made by what I understand is an established manufacturer of cast iron cookware. Nicely made for nuts like me that are into this stuff.

The wagnerware website seems pretty reasonable to me, same ballpark as Lodge. Did you buy from a 3rd party that marked it up maybe?
Nice looking griddle, what's planned for the first cook?

@Greg Jones, that brings tears to my eyes as I had an original Wagner Ware griddle just like that. It disappeared during our last move. I still hold out hope that it might appear in some stuff that went to my kids, but I fear it went out the door during the auction. 🥲

At least now I am enabled to get a replacement. 😉

$240 for the Wagner griddles, the similar model from Lodge (and I just recently gave one away) is $40. Breakfast will probably be the first cook. Anyone looking for a premium griddle at a more reasonable price would do well to look at the Made In carbon steel griddle or for cast iron , Finex has a couple of great options. See, I’m not just a cast iron junkie, I’m obsessed with griddles also.

I promise you, this is an unstaged photo I just took now after brunch with my wife. A Smithey #10 and #12 griddle on the right and a Lodge Day of the Dead griddle on the left. Link to Wagner: https://wagnercastiron.com/

Same here, just some different cast iron with a different home.

I see, I went to Wagner Wear dot com. So anyway, different griddles - wrong ballpark by a 4to1 shot.

Is the wagnercastiron link for specialty, reproduction models only? The link I provided seems to point to a legit business as well.
@Greg Jones if you know the difference please let us know now that we've gone this far.
Can’t say. I clicked on your link and I got a connection not secure warning, so I didn’t try to dive any deeper.

Dang, @Greg Jones, you are doing a great Job of enabling.

Since my vintage WagnerWare griddle is missing in action and probably gone forever, I am now feeling the need get a griddle back in the stable. While I’m liking the “new” WagnerWare retro look, I’m wondering if the quality is the same as the original WWs. The cooking surface on my old WW was incredibly smooth and fine-grained for cast iron.

Now, I’m looking at the “new” WagnerWare, Finex, Lodge, some vintage WWs on eBay and the Made In carbon steel griddle. I’m a little leary of buying used griddles via eBay but there are some interesting pieces that show up there.

Well done, Greg; I’m fully enabled now. :ROFLMAO:

Type in www.wagnerware.com it’s a cookware site. They also give a little history about WW and Griswold. I have all my safeguards on, vpn, safe sites, tracking blocker no warning for that site.

“FYI” is a code word for “ENABLE”. 🤣

Grilled beef roast then finished in (home grown) roasted tomatoes, onions, potatoes, and celery. Nothing fancy, but it sure hit the spot tonight. View attachment 23431
All right, @Greg Jones; now you’re talking! Looks delicious. I’m just doing some 2” thick pork chops on the grill to go with the wife’s “Bear Hunter Potatoes” and steamed broccoli.

I’ve had these in the freezer for a few months so decided they needed to be smoked. I LOVE beef plate ribs. 7 1/2 hours @ 275. Salt & pepper with a light dusting of The BBQ Rub Hot. There were no complaints.
