Just got my RT-590, and only did a 6lb pork shoulder on it when I decided now‘s the time to put a gasket around the lid before it get’s pretty greased up. There was a decent amount of smoke coming out from around the lid, which I’ve read is normal, but living in Minnesota, i wanted to seal things up a bit to protect against the colder weather.

Absolutely no smoke coming out from around the lid anymore, so wanted to share with you guys!

Nice job. I’ve also heard of folks making a cold weather cover out of a welding blanket for the 590.

I have been considering a door seal for my 590 as well. Yours looks really nice.
What material did you use?

here is the link. I also tried to keep it one continuous piece. When I rounded the corners, the material bunched up, so I cut a V shape into the material so I would smooth out and not push up on the lid:

I also cooked up some burgers and thick bacon slices afterwards at 450F (to help season the grill a bit more with grease) and the gasket was unfazed.

Well done. I did mine about a month ago. Works like a charm. Good job! ??

Didn't care so much about smoke escape it was the heat stain I got when searing at high temp.

I cleaned mine up with simple green and #00 steel wool. Was a lot of scrubbing, but came clean.
