First, welcome to the forum. Lots of experienced RT owners and grilling/smoking practitioners here who are willing to share their knowledge.

That said, I don’t know what to say about your rusting issue. I have a 2020 RT-340/Trailblazer that is showing no signs of a similar rust problem. My grill is covered with the fabric cover and sits out on my covered patio where it doesn’t get direct exposure to rain, but is exposed to moist air.

Rust is the primary byproduct of significant amounts of moisture. Since your grill is “kept under cover when not in use,” I have no explanation. Are you located in a coastal area with high exposure to salt air?

Sad to say, but it looks like you are in the market for a new grill soon. Good luck.

I’m unfamiliar with the airbox, can’t tell where that is. Probably too dirty for soldering, but how about grabbing some snips, sheet steel and self tapping screws? Maybe get another season out of it? Doesn’t have to be pretty.
Then start saving for a stainless or ceramic grill.

Did you mean fire box?
The air box is how air is fed to the fire pot. On the RT-700 style grills, the air box comes to the fire pot from the back. Most of the other recteqs have the air box come into the grill from the side. The pellet auger is in a tube also inside the air box.

Got it. The “chamber” the fan forces air through.

That is odd that would rust. Other than water/moisture, could a fire in the auger or air chamber have contributed to the rust? Fire & heat significantly contributed to the internal rust in my Grilla Grills Primate. So I have that in my head.

My 340 is rusted out too
3 years old
Reqteq has abandoned this model and will not sell parts or even supply a drawing so I can have one made.

All the buzz about how great they are that you read online is just propaganda put out by the company and its sycophants.

the metal they use is crap
The inability to replace parts is bullshit

never again

Other than the mentioned items you're happy with the grill, right?

Is it just me or does it seem extremely odd that a “new member” has a 3-year old RecTeq? We’ve seen a few of these over the last 6 months. My first thought…bot, someone just wanting to trash RecTeq, or an extremely unusual situation. I’m going with one of the first two.

I just want to know what the replacement grill will be. Heard the problem, what’s the solution?

Bird feeder and all?

I can’t understand how it rusted so badly unless it was exposed to a significant amount of moisture and/or used primarily at very high temperatures. Rust is an oxidation process that requires exposure to moisture and/or heat.

Can the OP provide more detail on how this grill was stored and used? Has it ever had pellet jams caused by damp/wet pellets?
