  1. RT-680
After several years after purchase I've noticed that igniter system goes out much too much. I've replaced 2 steel igniter already. Rec tec stated they have a ceramic igniter, but to covert mine I'd need a new fire pot also. The wire system connect clips are poorly constructed. The remedy is to buy a replacement wiring harnesses. These are still made with inferior push together clips. It all hit me why as I saw my serial number only towing out this grill is made in china. I purchased thinking I was supporting my Georgia based business. Bottom line when asked to supply me wiring diagram was told they couldn't furnish it. My rt. 680 is now at curb for tonight's garbage pick up. BUYING A TRAEGER NEXT.

Interesting, it might just be me but I don't sign up for forums just to announce I'm getting rid of the product that forum is about.

And, announcing that he’s replacing it with another Made in China or Made in Vietnam product after complaining that the RT was made in China. Why do I suspect a bot?

Agreed. For those reading this who are not bots, a Bernzomatic torch is a great substitute for the igniter. A little more inconvenient, but that’s what I’d use instead of trashing a grill. I used one for months on a Bullseye because I was too lazy to replace the ceramic rod.

Bernzomatic tourch is what I use too for my Bullseye. RT sent me a new igniter and fire pot over a year ago, but no gasket. My wife made me a new gasket out of material I got from O'Reilly's auto parts. Have all the instructions everyone has posted, but just too lazy to get it done.

How are you liking Charleston? I loved it when I lived there. Charleston AFB was my first assignment when I went into the Air Force in 1967.

I love Charleston and all the Lowcountry, but we are on the tip of St. Helena Island, so we are probably closer to Savannah than Charleston. It’s strange that we can easily see Edisto Beach from our beach access here, but it’s nearly a two hour drive to go there! I’ve not been on the Charleston AFB myself, but my son did various training there when he was in The Citadel Air Force ROTC.

Awesome. I hope he has an great AF career. Sorry for hijacking this thread.

I don't think the RT-680 has been sold in many years now. I won't pretend to say or think that RecTeq's are built to last a lift time, I don't know of a single grill with the same feature-set that is, but after years of use you're just now getting igniter issues - I'd say that's a win.

While this forum is open to share everyone's feedback, both good and bad - I do agree with @Jim6820, that dogging on a grill made in china only to buy another grill made in china is a bit funny.

"Funny" wasn't the word I had in mind. But I understand we try to keep it for general audiences. :)

The earlier 680 igniters are dirt cheap, i keep them on hand. The ceramic version is better but not worth changing the firepot on something that old.
