Any thoughts on the latest from recteq? Pretty happy with what I have now, but if I was starting from scratch this might get some attention. Not cheap by any means!

To me, its the first new grill they've released the past few years to really catch my eye. Most pellet grills (from all manufacturers) do basically the same thing. I could be wrong, but I can't recall another pellet grill that advertises open lid grilling, or anything close to that temp range (other than the Bullseye). I also think for the people that bought a dualfire that this probably has them just a bit ticked off, this is what the dualfire always should have been IMO. If this pit performs like they're advertising, I expect all the major manufacturers are going to come out with very similarly designed ones of their own.

My experience with “do-everything” stuff is that they rarely do anything exceptionally well. YMMV
@Jim6820 i am in your mind space on it. Just order a sampler platter of seafood at a restaurant, 🤮 But those individual dishes at the same place might be excellent. I am not into the magic snake oil elixer but willing for some one to surprise me. Just not at that price point.

This might make sense for someone entering the outdoor cooking world or have a limited outdoor footprint, but for those of us already enabled with multiple outdoor (and indoor) cooking tools, I'm already in too deep to re-tool until some of my existing hardware starts reaching their retirement age.

I do look forward to the details on this though, just out of sheer curiosity.

So, after carefully reading the RT website prose on the new X-Fire Pro 825, I’m not clear whether this is a “pellet grill” or a combination gas and pellet grill. They make a lot of “gas grill” comments, but I don’t see anything that shows it has a “gas grill” function. Is there an actual “gas” function on this grill, or are they just equating gas grill searing capability using pellets in an open-flame configuration?

It this is just an “open-flame” pellet grill that gets really hot, then MAK Grills has had its “FLAMEZONE® direct grilling surface” for several years. While MAK doesn’t claim any specific “searing” temperature, I can assure you that my 2-Star General does an admirable job of searing a steak with the “flame zone” covers off.

Inquiring minds want to know; is the X-Fire Pro 825 a dual-fuel grill, or an open-flame wood pellet grill?

Hopper must be in the front under the stainless cover. Only 20lb so that makes sense to me.

Its an open flame pellet grill, no gas involved. As for the MAK comparison, I don't think its quite the same, as MAK themselves advertises the Flamezone as "direct heat but indirect flame", it funnels the heat, not the flame. It also doesn't seem to allow for open lid grilling. They seemed to be designed very differently to me.

Yoder has perfected open flame cooking on a pellet grill. Nothing else I’ve seen (and I confess I haven’t seen a MAK) comes close, other than possibly Pitts & Spits. I’ve now watched half the nearly 40 minute video today of Ray and the chefs, and it may very well appeal to the gas grill guy wanting to smoke some ribs, etc. occasionally. I hoped I’d be more impressed… May be just what some folks are looking for, but I haven’t cooked on a gas grill in probably 40 years, so gas features (except for my Halo griddle and Loco pot) doesn’t interest me. I’m sure it is groundbreaking in some respects, just not for me.

I have both a 590 and a gas grill and the gas grill is starting to go. But my big hang up on the XFire is the cleaning. The grease pan, pellet ash, smoke residue on the outside, etc. Also where is the propane tank. I was lead to believe it goes on the "shelf",
Would sure like much more info, but it sound interesting to me.

There is no propane. Its all pellet fired.

I'm waiting for some influeners to do some videos but from what I gathered, it's 2 firepots with the deflector similiar to the one on the small side of the dual fire but they open up to direct flame if you want. It is definitely designed to get the attention of gas grillers. I'm perfectly happy with my Bull and Bullseye but it does seems to be the biggest design change in awhile. I do wonder how this eats pellets in grill mode.
