  1. Deck Boss 590
Hello!

I recently got a new wifi modem capable of 5Ghz speeds... I previously had been using a 2.4GHz modem which allowed my RT-590 to connect to the wifi with no problem.

I had to split my wifi networks into two networks, one for 5Ghz and one for 2.4GHz since that's what the Recteq app recommended.

I've been following their wifi troubleshooting guide(s) and still can't seem to solve the issue. I've...
  • made sure the blinking light in my app matches the blinking light on the smoker
  • restarted the router
  • "forgot" the 2.4Ghz network and reconnected
  • reinstalled the recteq app
  • restarted my phone
  • tried using my wife's phone as a hotspot
  • unplugged the smoker and plugged it back in
For whatever reason... the grill still "time's out" when trying to connect.

Anyone have any suggestions? At this stage, I'm thinking its a hardware issue with the smoker...

Put your old 2.4 router back online in addition to the new router and connect your grill to the old one. I have a dedicated 2.4 router running that way with no issues.

If I hadn’t sold it I’d do just that 😂🙃

I know sometime back the App on Android was giving some issues but they probably fixed that. Question about splitting the 2.4 and 5.0, did you set independent SSIDs and or unique passwords/phrases? Also make sure your phone is locked into the 2.4 then unplug the grill, wait a minute, reconnect to power and go through the process again. Sorry if this seems menial but being a sysadmin as part of my larger job, I can't help myself. 😁

You could also be correct in it being a controller hardware problem. If nothing works pretty quick Call RT and don't speak to the short guy.

Since you split your wi fi network, did you use different names for the ssid?

For example my 2.4 ssid is xxx_24, then the 5 gigahertz xxx_5

If you use the same ssid for both bands, devices will sometimes not connect. At least that's what I read on The internet :)
