This is my review after using the Recteq Bullseye Black Edition from December 2024 to April 2025. I understand it's a grill first and smoker second, but the temperature inconsistency is significant. I've called support, submitted feedback, adjusted the feed rate, and Costco pellets have been blamed for the 50° plus temperature fluctuations. I've leaned to let the grill heat up 100°+ past set temp on startup before it cools down to around set temp.

I'm cooking another brisket tonight and wanted to ensure I'm doing everything correctly. I cleared the hopper, bought the Recteq Ultimate Blend pellets (from Recteq Fest), feed rate is at 3.0%, and I've watched the app from 8:23 PM to 11:23 PM and the temp has not fallen below around 270° (see attached) even after lowering the temp from 225° to 200° (LOW).

This isn't the first time I've experienced this, but this is by far the worst I've seen it. I clean my grill consistently so this is not a grease fire on a new cook.

That's not a low and slow smoking machine, but agree those temps shouldn't be fluctuating so much. There isn't anything we can do about it here and it's still under warranty, sounds like more calls/emails need to be placed with tech support. And of course someone at RT told you it's "the non OEM pellets" but you obviously know that is total BS. ;)

It stayed around 275-300° the entire cook before I pulled it off to finish it in the oven. Set temp was 200-225°

Are you relying on the RT chart for your temperature data? If so, it may not be correct. Do you have a known-accuracy third-party thermometer to verify what you are seeing on the chart?

As @Motodad1776 points out, the 380-series grills are not known for their low-and-slow performance, but if you manage the grease issue carefully, you should, at least, be able to stay in the low-200s reasonably well.

FWIW, I threw away several bags of RT Ultimate pellets last year because of inconsistent performance. Now, I use LumberJack or Bear Mountain with much better results—though I do use them mostly in another brand pellet grill now.

I called Recteq support and they told me to adjust the feed rate to 2%. I used a drip pan with beef broth and keep the grill pretty much immaculate between cooks. So we'll see how my next cook with the Ultimate Blend pellets goes. I have a few thermometers. I don't think the app temp chart is off 50-100°, but maybe it is. I'll test ambient temp with another thermometer next cook. This is really only an issue with brisket.

I have been using my 380X for a couple of years. The minimum feed is at 2%. I can run at 225 without much of an issue, but it can take 30 minutes to lock in and hold steady. That is using Costco pellets and under an EZ up with mild temperatures. If I were in 90+ degree direct sun, I have my doubts. If I really want to go low and slow , I'm going to use my 700 as first choice.

MIght be a bad controller if lowering the feed rate doesn't work. The bullseyes sometimes will overshoot a bit but should stabilize out. I'm able to run my Bullseye at 200 though I don't do much smoking on the grill but I do like to turn to low sometimes and I have no issues. I have the stainless steel regular bullseye. And I use the Costco pellets and have no issues. Rarely(from that I've seen in forums and experience) are pellets the actually issue. I know from a troubleshooting pov you have to rule that out but most of the time it's just simply not the issue.
