Reluctantly, i really hate updates, but i went ahead with the latest firmware update to the Recteq app, to 5.2.0 believing it would be better. I think, not.
It says it was an upgrade to the performance. Performance of what? All i`m seeing is an app that`s even harder to get it to load and work.
Have any of you guys had any issues compared to the previous firmware ? Or are we all still beta testers for Recteq.

My Recteq: BYB1200
My Phone: Samsung Android
My WiFi: 2.4 (per instructions from the app)

No personal issues with this update.

Not sure if this is an app version for Android or a firmware version on the controller Eprom but I got a less than stellar updated app version 3.5.4 for iOS. I actually was able to log in and see my unit and have been getting updates on the 4th July, who'da thunk.
The less than stellar part is that they, in thier updated managed to render the key punch entry for temp disfunctional. Only the unwieldy slider will set the temp. Using the numeric keys, shows and entry for all of two seconds tops and then it reverts to whatever the previous setting value was. Looks like the Smart Ligr app is in my near future and iy, not that I use it does offer remote start or did.
Edit: on the key entry, after 10 attempts and the grill running for ~20 minutes the key entry worked and I got the Pre-heating and set point alerts. So those alerts are a real improvement on a holiday or any day for that matter. Good on them.

Happy 4th and cooking just the same. I am just running mine to get it ready to clean out.

Edit 2: after putting my RT-700 through the paces in prep for a deep clean, the above negatives of the latest iOS update were proven to be some sort of intial app use glitch. The key pad entry started and kept working and to my suprise I got all of the update notifications I would expect when changing temps etc. If this is the new RT smartware solution I will say nicely done. I always wanted the IT side of my RT-700 to work as good as the grill does. This is a step forward in that regard IMHO.

Likewise version 3.5.4 IOS and even the old version ran great. Just completed an overnight cook for a pork butt and I’m now doing 6 slabs of ribs until 1 PM, then I’m done. I just can’t attach a temp chart but it’s no biggie. I’m using my cooks part to track what works and what doesn’t. I’d give it a B+

I just deleted that awful app.........good riddance and happy old school smoking!!
LOL, i`m just about ready to dump it myself too. If the Recteq brand is suppose to be "all that", then i shouldn`t need the app to run it.

The app has been useful and on my IOS phone it’s always worked well, and I have it installed on my iPad.

Maybe we should tell Recteq company to send iPhones & iPads to be included with their smokers.

So after a couple days of trying to get the (5.2.0) app to work (AGAIN), i gave up and deleted it off my phone. What a waste of time. It was working most of the time before the 5.2.0 firmware update, now it won`t even work at all now. Bye-Bye ya POS!

Maybe if they come out with a update again later on, that REALLY actually WORKS, i may revisit it later. But in the meantime, their app is a really bad joke on recteq owners. Wait, how much did we pay for these pellet pooper`s? Ugh :(

I am a bit comfused, you mention both app and firmware which are different animals?
The Andriod app for, say a phone is like version 2.2.3 and the iOS or apple version is 3.5.4. The firmware is embedded in your controller in the EEPROM so I am going with the firmware for the version. If a recent OTA update was performed has the grill had a hard reset? One also might need to delete the app and reinstall. I happily don't get firmware updates so one less pain. Seems I have seen this firmware upgrade nightmare discussed on this forum with the resulting actions something like I noted above.
If the grill works fine otherwise trash the app and get a graphing 3rd party device and life will be less stressful. Good luck whichever way you go. 🥂

Well i guess i`m confused too, lol. I`ve dumped the app, re-downloaded it a bunch of time, nothing fixes it. All i know is that the app kinda worked ok, BEFORE, this latest update to 5.2.0. It took a few tries to get it to recognize the network BEFORE the new update, but now it doesn`t do anything at all anymore when you try to punch in a network on the recteq app since this new update. It just keeps coming up with, and returning to Choose Wi-Fi network, No Network on the screen of my phone. I tried 2 other phones (samsung) and those wouldn`t work the app either. Anything else running on wifi in my house has zero issues finding a network, so i know its the recteq app that is the problem. You even said yourself that you`ve seen this issue with other recteq app users having issues. So i believe its a recteq problem, not a customer/user problem. I`ve read MANY complaints across a lot of other forums, that said they`re dumping the app because its garbage.

I`m not messing with any of it anymore. I`ve deleted it from my phone(s). I`ve got better things to do with my time besides being a beta tester for the recteq company and not getting paid for it, lol. Regardless, thank you for trying to help, it is appreciated.

Well, i hate it when something beats me. So i downloaded the app again on my samsung phone. This time, i spent some time with my Wi-Fi in the house to make sure it was set to 2.4 on its own, and it was, and i also did alot of checking within my phone. And who would have thought, i turned on the "location" on my phone, and suddenly, my 2.4 wifi shows up within the app`s choices of networks. I chose the 2.4 like i always do, and the app took right off working like it should. I`m gonna run it for a few cooks and see if it actually stays working. If it does, and it turns out that it was just the "location" needs to be turned on in your phone for it to work right, i might have been the dumba$$ and not the app after all.

I`ll own it any time i`m wrong.

I might have to eat this crow.....we`ll see

I applaud you for coming back with this report which may be very helpful for others in the future. Most times folks just move on when they realize they may have had a pert in their troubles 👏🏻 👏🏻. Now you’ll be the member that can remind folks to makes sure to turn on their location when they have trouble connecting their grills to the app.

Thank you sir. If this can help others, that makes me very happy. Nothing makes ya more mad than when something doesn`t work right.
This one may be all on me. I just had to go back and see what i could do with it. It really eats at me when i can`t fix or figure something out.
Now i`ve gotta remember it myself to make sure its turned on, lol. Being i`m up there in years, i`ve been known to forget things once in awhile, lol.

I might just use my label maker and post a note of it right on my BYB1200 to remind me to turn on my "location" icon in my (samsung) phone.
I`m wondering if the iPhone guys have some sort of location button to turn on in their iPhones for the app to work (?) Hope some iPhone guys chime in about that.

Maybe i should have the MODS change my member name to "Old Dumba$$"
