What About Cooking in Anodized Aluminum?

Aluminum cookware that has been anodized (hardened through a process that renders it nonreactive) or clad in a nonreactive material, such as stainless steel or a nonstick coating, does not leach into or react with foods.

Note: Grill grates are anodized.
Interesting information. I’ve had the same concern regarding aluminum and have been wishing that someone would offer sear plates in stainless steel. Could you provide a link to the source for future reference?

When I need to sear something that can’t be done on a high-temp grill (like my gas grill), I use a cast iron grill pan with ridges in the bottom to provide a nice marking.

What's with grill markings? Does the food eat better?

not sure how i feel about grill grates and them being aluminum even though they say they are safe to cook on not sure they are give me cast iron all day long
If you're worried about cooking on aluminum then by all means you better quit cooking with wood and charcoal. All sorts of nasty carcinogens involved that you don't want to be involved with. Also don't cook anything less than well done. Ya need to be sure the nasties are all cooked dead.

I have most of the accessories mentioned, but there is one I have that I don't think I have seen, and it is referred to as a "PORKINATOR". It is an attachment to your cordless drill, and it shreds a pork butt. If you are cooking several butts and shredding by hand, it can make your wrist a little tired. this works GREAT! Attached is one like I have.

Nothing beats shredding a pork butt apart with your hot nitrile gloved hands! I have a pair of bear claws too, but I gave them away years ago. I do have something similar to that tool that I mix paint with! :)

I saw a video where the meat is put in a 5 gal bucket and then the PORKINATOR shreds it in like 30 sec.

I have most of these gadgets.

Injector still in the packaging for years.

2 expandable smoke tubes

Home Depot buckets with lids for pellets

Several sizes of silicone brushes so I'm not leaving hair like I did with old brushes. And who came up with those mops! They hold a bottle of sauce alone!

Gloves? LOL, got no time for gloves. Real men have no hair on their arms. JK- I have some but always forget until I touch that meat probe or smoke tube. I have a smoke tube tattoo on palm of hand right now LOL

Grates, never saw the need. I do have a perf pan for veggies & fish.

Any recommendations on tongs?
Cheapo Chinesium off of Amazon. Get ones without the plastic/rubber tips on them, just straight stainless. The tips make it difficult to get the tongs under meat while on the grill.

I recently got the chain mail scrubbie for cleaning cast iron. Always thought it was excessively priced and excessively unnecessary. It's pretty darn good at its job. Previously I would clean up with the metal spatula and paper towels or water rinse. This leaves more seasoning behind, while still taking the surface down evenly to a level cooking area. I've only had it a week - my cast iron survived decades of doing it the other way, but I like this better.

I'd be interested in hearing how well you like it after a few more uses. I've always been a paper towels and water wash myself.

Still like it! Knocks down anything caked/burnt on, leaves a smooth surface, doesn't gouge into the seasoning. The red rubber/silicone core is taking on some grease and turning it darker. I could try the dishwasher, but it really doesn't bother me. I know, $30 is a lot of paper towels.

Do you want pulled pork or shredded pork? It’s a preference, but IMO pulled pork beats shredded pork any day.
I agree whole heartedly. Not a fan of shredded pork. We’ve used a tool like that at church with large quantities of pork and I prefer hand pulled.

There is no question that Rec Tec grills are some of the best pellet grills you can buy for the money. However there are ton of grill accessories out there that will not only make your Rec Tec that much better, but will also make your grilling experience much easier.

Below is a list of some of the most common pellet grill accessories that not only I recommend, but also recommended by many others online and in other pellet grill groups.

Most recommended pellet grill accessories

Meat probe / thermometer pen - Even having the best smoker grill on the market (Rec Tec :D) doesn't do much good if you don't know the internal temperature of the meat you're cooking. While some Rec Tec models, like the Bull and Stampede, have built-in meat probes - it's still nice to have a thermometer pen that you can very quickly and easily get the internal temperature of whatever it is you're cooking without having to cut open the meat to see what it looks like inside.

The Lavatools Javelin is a great thermometer pen that won't break the bank. The Lavatools Javelin is quick (, very accurate, and space saving due to it's folding design. If you're looking for something with a bit more features such as a backlit display and rotating display then the Lavatools Javelin Pro would make a great upgrade.

If you must have the fastest and most accurate thermometer pen and don't care about price, then the Thermapen Mk4 is what you're looking for. I would venture to say most backyard grillers probably don't need this, but hey maybe it comes with some bragging rights! :D

Cooking Mat - If you've ever cooked vegetables, shrimp or other smaller items you know how hard it can be to keep them on the grill grate. A cooking mat solves this issue by providing a non-stick mesh grill mat that makes cooking smaller and/or messy items much easier to grill.

Frogmat is a great product and one that I use myself. The come in various different sizes and can be thrown in the dishwasher to be cleaned. Rec Tec also offers a 16"x16" grill mat too that's worth checking out.

Searing Grates - Searing grates conducts heat more efficiently compared to the normal wire grates round in pellet grills.

This allows your grill grate to be up to 300 degrees hotter on the grate than in the hood, thus allowing you to easily add restaurant like sear marks. Searing grates also be used to reverse sear your steaks, just simple turn them over flat side up. I'd recommend getting a set of Grill Grate searing grates.

Smoke Tubes - While Rec Tec grills produce enough smoke for most people, there are those that wish it would create more smoke or those that wish to have more smoke when they want. A smoke tube allows you to add more smoke when you want it, simply fill up the smoke tube with pellets, light it, then throw it in the grill. Now your pellet grill is producing even MORE smoke.

The most recommended smoke tube would be the A-MAZE-N pellet tube smoker.

Grilling Gloves - No, not to keep your hands warm, but to protect your hands from getting burned! Having a set of grilling gloves makes it far easier to handle large cooks, such has a hot brisket.

There are all types of gloves you could use, from silicone to synthetic, but I've found a set of leather welding gloves to not only provide more than adequate protection but also be much more cost effective. (y)

These are just some of the most recommended pellet grill accessories, but certainly not a complete list. So please, share with us what your favorite grill accessories are below!
I got a second level grill shelf that works in my RT-590:

Green mountain for Davy Crockett grill 14" x 10" x 3.5"
https://www.amazon.com/dp/B07T263GNS?psc=1&ref=ppx_yo2ov_dt_b_product_details

I recently put a 15lb 8oz brisket (trimmed to ~ 11lbs) on this shelf and it worked great. The RT second shelf for the 590 is pretty useless, imho.

There is one for their Daniel Boone that is slightly larger but the legs run parallel to the grate rods in the RT-590.
