I was kicked out of the Recteq Grill Owners of America Facebook group for recommending to another member where he could get a shelf for his 700.

Chad Peterson has been making shelf kits for recteq grills for years. Recteq has financially benefited from Peterson, but has recently kicked him out of all their forums.

A member asked where he could get a shelf and I replied with Peterson’s name. I was kicked out for it.
I’m deleting my Recteq RT-590 group membership and you can kick me from this forum as well.
I love my Recteq grill, but will not likely be a return customer!

This forum, while mostly about cooking with recteq grills, is not an official recteq forum. You will need to do more than this to get kicked out of here! Saying something negative about the men of recteq calendar would be a start. ;)

That’s lame as hell. Regardless, this forum is not associated with the company. Just us chickens.

What are his shelf kits all about?

Interesting and especially for that reason. I am not logging into FB for other reason but one of the things I miss is that group and other RecTeq groups. I always found that group(RTGOOA) to be one of the better ones. Did you reach out to any of the admins about it? But back when I was on fb, I saw plenty of posts about Chad and him making a shelf for the 700.

I'm not trying to defend on the admins there but perhaps I slightly am....the RecTeq folks do monitor that forum along with others. Perhaps they asked an admin to remove it? I would believe that more than an admin just doing on his/her own. Regardless of the "why" it was removed, from the info you posted, it should not have been.

Um I get a feeling you didn't even bother to read anything on this site before you registered for an account... you know like this giant banner that is shown to all non-members:

This site is a site for RecTeq enthusiasts and fans. We are NOT affiliated with RecTeq in any way, shape, or form. We're a fan site.

So you can be mad at the facebook group for their overly zealous moderating team, but you'll find RecTeqForum operates in a MUCH different manner. ;)

You're welcome to hang out and enjoy the community... or you can be a grumpy gus. It's up to you. :D

He has several different kits, and I have ordered one myself (the "Game changer" for the RT-590). (I would like to say I am patiently waiting for it, but I have a slightly obsessive personality, and as a result, I have been checking the mailbox hourly since I placed the order!)
I will attempt to link his site here, please let me know if this is in violation:

Big tech canceling you out....seems to be a trend these days.
Sounds more like “Big Rec-Tech” ;)

That’s awesome. I’m definitely ordering one. Thanks!

Is that FB group run by RecTeq? Not surprising if so how they have turned greedy especially with the rumors of not selling goodies from the 1250 unless you own it.

Not a huge surprise though.. they did this with the controller long before the 1250. But a drip shield or auger motor from the BFG? LOL.. can get that stuff anywhere or make it yourself as well as a shelf.

Oh well.. enjoy your freedom here and support the site (Mike) with a premium member ship and kill the pop ups while at it.

IF they were so inclined and had the supplies (could take a while)......offering a DIY upgrade kit would be something no other grill company has ever done (to my knowledge).

The press alone on that might be worth it's weight in gold. Just saying.

Pssst....RT, if you read this...mine should be free for the idea. 😁

In all fairness, I assume they want those parts for valid warranty claims. I can understand that the folks that buy the 1250 should have first dibs, so to speak, on replacement parts for that grill.

I agree that it's pretty crappy what they've done to Chad based on what I've read. Particularly the cease and desist deal. He's got a product that compliments the grill. Not direct competition until the 1250 came out with a similar set up.

As far as the group, this forum is the source for real info and FB is more just a food porn thread. If you do want another, Recteq Underground is an OK group and Chad is welcome there.

I don't buy that for a second (no pun intended).. these things are mass produced in China and unlikely at the price they are selling them for are flying off the shelves.

I guess we'll see.. How long do we wait?

Well, we can agree to disagree.

They are not required to sell you, or replace, anything but the parts for the grill you ordered to honor the warranty.

I'm with you....they improved (maybe) the 700, and most of the improvements seem to have direct ties to things people have modded and posted about on the internet here and elsewhere.

It's not like RT invented any of this stuff...hell they didn't exist (nor did other pellet grill makers) until the Traeger patents expired.
