  1. Patio Legend 410
Howdy folks! I just got an RT410 as a gift for my 60th birthday. I've never had or used a smoker before so I guess I've got some reading to do.

Am I going to like it?
Any 1st timer tips and tricks I should be aware of?
What's your favorite recipe for babyback ribs?
Can you smoke hot wings?

(So many questions.....)

Thanks in advance.

Congrats on the new grill. @Cazman; that’s a great birthday gift for a young fella like you. ;)

My first recommendation for a “1st timer” is “take it slow.” You will have a learning curve, but smoking/grilling isn’t rocket science.

I have no idea what kind of cooking tools you already possess, so here’s a basic inventory list to consider. Not trying to get you to run out and buy a bunch of stuff (and getting myself called an “enabler” by the good folks on this forum); just some suggestions on what I think you may find useful. Below is my basic list.

- Some kind of reliable probe-style thermometer; instant-read preferred
- Reliable kitchen timer
- Stainless steel tongs (without plastic/silicone tips)
- Gloves; insulated hot and surgical-type for meat prep
- A couple of decent knives; a general-purpose trimming/boning and a slicer plus carving fork
- Some kind of knife sharpening tools; whetstone or diamond stone, and honing steel

That should get you started. Others will likely offer additional suggestions. Good luck.
