To begin with, I don't place the meat on the grill grates. I prefer to use a pan with an oven rack to keep meat away from sitting/ boiling in the grease.
I wrap in Butcher paper or foil depending on what I want the finished product to be. This way I do not have to scrape the drip tray or the grates themselves. I don't have grease fires. I can wash the pan and the tray/rack each time. The large grill grates are awkward. LOL.
BONUS... I have the drippings in the pan to make gravies or use as a base in soups.
 
I do the same thing. Makes cleanup a breeze, and makes taking the finished cook very easy to carry inside.
Line the pan with foil and then you only have to throw out the foil, no other cleanup except the rack.

Didn’t know there was any other way to grill.
