@Jim6820 how are you doing today?
Doing OK, @RattleR; thanks for asking. Had a visit with the cardiologist this morning and it looks like I am progressing as expected. Looks like I didn’t have any permanent damage to my heart, so that was good news.

I did get a firm reminder that a “lifestyle change” is in order; more hydration and exercise, and less—wait for it—fatty foods like meat, butter, etc. Workin’ on it but that last part is gonna be hard.

That is good news. Agree that last part is hard and will take a bit of getting use to those changes.

Final update!

Had my one-month follow-up with the cardiologist today and things are looking really good. No permanent damage to the heart muscle confirmed, stent healing in place properly, blood pressure in the “excellent” range, have lost 13 pounds and a 2X-3X weekly “cardiac rehab” program prescribed for the next 3 months. Still need to focus on reducing fat intake, but the medications controlling cholesterol are working as they are supposed to. All-in-all, no restrictions to physical activity.

We are putting this episode in the rear-view mirror and movin’ on! Thanks for all the expressions of concern, they were appreciated. Now, closing out this thread.

Jim, Glad you came out on the other side of your cardiac "event". Hopefully in the near you can bargain w/ your cardiologist to get some beef and pork back into your diet and exercise regimen. We happen to live in a seafood rich area and salmon and other fish smoke really well.

I have a pretty good salmon recipe that works great on my 590 (or oven) and it is low sodium and loaded w/ "good" oils.

Get better and stay well.

Tom

Thanks, @Maule Guy. I have found a great little fish market in our area with a super selection of fresh fish and seafood. This past week, we had wild Chinook Salmon, Petrale Sole and scallops. Halibut is next. We love fish and seafood, so no sacrifice there. I did manage to work marinated pork tenderloin into the mix as well, and it was good. We’ll be fine in the long run.

Sorry for the recent disappearing act; had an encounter with a “cardiac event.” Been in the hospital for a few days to get a stent put in one of my heart arteries . On the mend and back to grilling and smoking soon.
Hope you are feeling better!
