First year in Tennessee so its a trial and error garden… cannot keep up with this jungle we’ve had so much rain. Last photo is today’s harvest, we’re getting that every other day. Definitely need to make some adjustments next year lol.

That looks really nice! Here for the first year gardening in South Carolina, I scaled way back and got a really late start. Down from (10) 4’x8’ raised beds in Kentucky to (3) 2’x6’ beds here, plus (2) GreenStalk tower planters. Harvested my first tomatoes today! Your stuff looks fantastic!

We put everything in the ground April 15. It’s insane how much produce we’re getting and we have been for almost 2 weeks already. We went a little bigger with a 40 x 40 plot. Probably should’ve went bigger to space it out more but next year we’ll know a little bit better on how much we actually need to plant for produce.

We were very fortunate that the property we purchased has very good soil. I was surprised I thought I was gonna have to do raised beds. We still have a few for certain things, but just about everything is actually in the ground. Again, last year was a drought… This year I probably could’ve used an ark.

Just canned our first batch of pickles and jalapeños today. Definitely will be making salsa and tomato sauce down the road.

I started really small this year at the new place; three large terracotta pots with herbs and two tomato plants. We just had a sprinkler system installed for the lawns and drip irrigation for the shrubs, so I had the installer include drip tubes for the large pots and my wife’s hanging baskets as well. It is working out nicely and keeps things watered without me having to drag hoses around. Next year, I plan to expand with a couple of large, raised planter boxes.

The tomato plants have about two dozen blossoms and a couple of small tomato’s showing at this point; the herbs are just jumping up and we are already able to harvest some. We have Sage, Sweet Basil, English Thyme, Lemon Thyme, Oregano, Rosemary and Chives in the herb pots. The tomatoes are an heirloom variety, but I forget the specific name.

Edit: the tomatoes are “Cosmonaut Volkov,” an heirloom variety originally from Ukraine. It is named for Vladislav Volkov, a Russian/Ukrainian cosmonaut who perished in the Soyuz 11 mission when the capsule depressurized.

It is a modest start after having three acres at the old place, but you have to start somewhere.
