So, finally, getting back to finishing the setup for the Bull, I notice inside the hopper, this very bright red sealant/caulk around the seams - is this safe? I would assume so, but wasn't sure and haven't seen anything on the site about it...

That’s the high temp sealant that RecTeq uses, so it’s normal to see it. As to weather it’s safe I couldn’t say for sure but like you I assume so.
 
About 95% of other foods eaten have chemicals on them, would take the chance on a few.pellets touching the silicone.

Recteq must own stock in the company since they are so liberal with it :)

It is gooey and a pain in the tutu to apply without getting it everywhere, but it does work and doesn't degrade in the heat. I used this to seal the wind vents on my 590 and while taking a bit of clean up, there is no smoke leakage around any of the vents after a couple of years.
