Hi all. New to the forum and new Recteq owner here (1250). Just started unboxing and what I presume is the cast iron heat deflector is flaking pretty bad (attached pics). Is this normal? I did email recteq as well to get their thoughts. Thanks for any input anyone has and happy Saturday!

Looks like just slag. it should just fall off and not have any adverse affects. Too bad it wasn't cleaned before it was sent out.

It didn’t get sand blasted at the foundry. It’s not supposed to be that way but I don’t think it will hurt anything. If you complain they will send you a new one and then you’ll have a spare.

Thanks all for responses! I was worried to cook with it at first but may just clean it up and fire it up for my burn in and start using it while I wait to hear back from Recteq.

Being the heat defector, it won't hurt a thing

Will likely burn off.. nothing to worry about. Crank it up :).
